Default Sears Engine Analyzer

Hi all. I have an old (late 70's vintage) Sears engine analyzer (see pic).

I wanted to use it to "calibrate" my tach, but couldn't get a reading at all.

I am using a Pertronix ignition module in my distributor. Could that be the problem?

Anyone have any experience with one of these?

Cheers
Greg

Don't think the old stuff is compatible with solid state ignition. Voltage level to fire pwr xstr compared to point type ( 12 vdc to grnd) is much too low to be seen by the older electronics w/o an adapter of some sort.

I would think it would work OK. They work on my Corvette's magpulse ignition system (CD). Red lead to plus side of coil and black to battery negative pole I think - don't use it enough to anymore to remember for sure without checking instructions.

Here are the instructions I've got:

I'll give it a try when I next start the car.

Cheers

Hmmm - that thing has more leads than my old dwell meter/tach units!! I would still think you should get a reading out of it with the Pertronix unit.
