Coyote CSX Cobra at SEMA
If you have not seen the Shelby CSX6000 with a Coyote in it, you can this week at SEMA. It is located near the drifting in the Ford Racing area. Here is the wheel stand information:
The legacy of the Cobra started in the early sixties when renowned racecar driver Carroll Shelby installed a Ford V-8 into a lightweight rolling chassis. That legacy still lives on today in cars like Shelby CSX6083. Built in partnership with Ford Racing, this Cobra started with a Shelby CSX6000 rolling chassis from DenBeste Motorsports. Ford Racing Performance Parts supplied their popular Coyote 5.0 engine. It was all assembled a stones-throw from Shelby American’s Las Vegas facility at World Class Cobra builder Speedway Classic Cars. Over fifty years in the making, CSX6083 is the epitome of classic styling blended with modern performance.
Base Vehicle
• Shelby American CSX6000 Rolling Chassis
• Fiberglass Body Painted Shelby Black
Powertrain
• Ford Racing 5.0L Coyote Engine
• Tremec TKO600 Transmission
• Install Done by Speedway Classic Cars of Las Vegas

I saw this in Tom's shop when he was working on it. It takes a lot of work to shoehorn that engine into a Cobra.

I don't comprehend why anyone would pay the insane markup for a "real" one and then put an unoriginal engine in it. But I don't understand paying the insane markup for the "real" one in the first place.

Clearly. You bought a "Hunter". When you want a Cobra and not a replica of one it costs more $.

From the guy who used to post "My engine lives at XXXXRPM for hours on end"!!!! ( I think you had some sort of Mod motor)
Different horses for different courses! If you don't own a car from Thames Ditton, you don't own an original Cobra and all bets are off.

Well, if I had a replica with a Coyote motor I could open my hood at a car show and people would think it's cool. If I had a 'real' one with a Coyote motor, and I opened the hood at a car show people would think I was a liar ( 'it's not real, it doesn't have 427!') or just crazy (why would you take out the 427 and swap in a Coyote????).

I would in no way put a Coyote motor in a Shelby or want one with it. But people have done crazy stuff with original Cobras too.

Kind of puts it all in perspective for all of us with kits and what we choose to use for drivetrains. The sky is the limit even with the CSX cars.

To me, a coyote engine in a Csx kit car is just wrong.
But then again, it is just a kit car.

Reading comprehension test: I DID NOT say Evan's car was not a "real Cobra" I said if it was not built in the 60's at Thames Ditton, it is not an "original Cobra". Big difference.

No, he is correct. I don't own an original Cobra.

Hey,
If Evan ever wants to get rid of that fake, unoriginal, clone, ersatz "kit car" Cobra of his, well, I'd be willing to give him twenty bucks or so!
Like I said, different strokes for different folks. If a VW 1600 in the rear of your "Cobra" makes you happy, God bless you, go for it.

If I had one of those I might sell it to you. However, sounds like you're shopping for a "Hunter Kit Car Cobra". Visit the "Hunter Kit Car Cobra" site for more info. Doesn't get more ersatz than that. You may not get a Coyote motor ( fantastic motor btw) but you do get a kit car that's too long and wide with Corvette suspension.
