Which EFI-System ford Ford 427W SBF ?
Hi guys,
which EFI-System with a carburettor-look with self-learning ECU would you recommend for a SBF 427W-engine ?

I've used the FAST EZ system and liked it. Haven't tried the MSD system yet, but it looks to be about the same system.

car craft or one of the hot rod magazines just came out with a test of 4 of the popular self learning efi setups. course they couldn't say which was best so you have to decide.

If the cam isn't too radical, I'd consider the mass-flo system.

I looked in to them during the past year and all I found was horror story after horror story. IMO, having EFI kind of defeats the purpose if you constantly have to tune it.
Whatever you end up seriously considering, do a quick google search on it. If you aren't scared off, go for it.

This particular engine hasn't been run enough to really get refined yet....dyno only so far.
However, I've seen several of the other builders use them and had high accolades for them.
I will say that the initial learning process is really slick on the dyno. Tell it how many cubes, throw some more inputs in, and hit the switch.

Our experience with EZ EFI 1.0 has been it can take 2,000 or more miles of varied driving. The other key is when you discover an odd spot in it you essentially hold that condition until it learns.
From our side the Holley currently makes the best promises, we will see if they live up to some of them soon.

I also have a Mass-Flo on a 418, really big roller cam, 11:1, 532 HP at the wheels on 93 octane. Starts perfectly without touching the throttle and runs really nice hot or cold. Pretty good manners considering the cam. Took about 1,000 miles to really settle in on the low end. I think it runs in open loop at full throttle, so that was never a learning issue.
One point though. With a big overlap cam, you will have to clean the wires on the mass flow meter once in a while (very carefully, expensive to replace) as the blow back at idle coats them. The more your idle around and the wires get contaminated, it confuses the meter and that sets the injectors and timing off enough to tell. Not a big deal, but must be done on occasion, depending on how much you idle around. I can't imagine you would have this issue with a sensible street cam.
I still don't like the way the TB looks like it chokes down the airflow when you look straight down the body. Mass-Flo says it's good for 1,000 CFM but it doesn't LOOK like it. Dyno says it's probably doing OK, so I guess all is well.
Mass-Flo has a new generation system and computer with much more adjustability. Probably worth a look.
Sure makes a nice driver.

I like the mass-flo efi system, but i have not used one of their newer systems with the programmable computer. Best aftermarket EFI system i have used thus far...used it twice. Would have driven either of those cars cross country without a second thought.
I've heard good things about the Fast XFI system, but bad about the older and newer "easy" EFI "self learning" system, especially the one with the carb look that resembles the powerjection system, which i know first hand is an absolute POS!

Forgot to mention, i have a 66 Mustang Fastback with a 427W and stack injection currently that is running the first generation fast system and it is ok, but not so hot. As in, I don't know if i want to drive it much because if I stop and try to start it again, it may or may not want to crank over...depending on the given day. This could be a minor issue, i am not sure because i haven't messed with it much, but i do know this much, I don't trust it.

Are you referring to the Holley Terminator TBI or Dominator multi point? Either way kindly post your results when you are ready.

Best EFI System
I'm quite pleased with my Megasquirt2. I noticed there seems to be more and more engines in the engine builders challenge using megasquirt. The recent article in one of the hot rod magazines I get had 3 or 4 of the engines with megasquirt.
