Nonsense, a challenge was made 'mano a mano' so let 'em work it out on the track like real men.

I never gamble. .... But I would put money on this one cause that's not gambling.

No disrespect... I'm aware of Bruce's achievements (outstanding by the way), but I'll see your cobra god, and raise you Morris.

Then 15s are sufficient. The reason I prefer 18s for track is the wide choice of R compound tires. Tire companies have mostly abandoned performance 15s.

I go fishing to catch me a "65 racing ford" and I catch me a "3170 cobra".
Oh brother... Obviously I used the wrong bait...
Oh well. While I got you on the line $500 say I got you beat!
In fact YOU can even pick the car I RACE YOU IN.
Track - you've already nominated Willow Springs.
I'll even pay for my own entry.
All you have to do is cover my expenses to get there.
Let's see if you're brave enough to take that challenge on.

I have 17s and I'm happy. I haven't kept up, and was not aware 18s were the new 17s. Too thin of a side wall does look a bit too modern for me.
As a side note I just replaced my back tires (imagine that!), got a smoking deal from a vendor and went to a Firestone store to have them mounted. My front tires are about a year and half old, installed by discount tire, and the steering wheel would get a slight vibration at speed. So I had Firestone re-balance the fronts as well. Took it for a test drive and guess what....steering wheel was rock solid through a range of freeway speeds.

My front tires are 315x30x18 and rears are 335x30x18 and I would estimate that I have 400 HP on you, I am pretty sure you won't be visible in my mirrors after 2 laps.
|
Sure you would at Willow Springs, my car is setup for acceleration not for top speed (4.10). The car is too tall (front) and too light, under 2000# for speeds above 140mph.
The Horse Thief Mile comes in mind....
Anyhow - are you saying, you have 870 HP?

I always ran 15" but upped to 17" to fit bigger brakes and because tyres where a problem to source here in South Africa.
Currently run 275X40X17 MT Street Comps on the back but think I should have gone with 275x40X18" on the rear to fill the wheel arches better. The front 245X45X17 look great.

No reason you can't expect decent performance with a 15" tire..and.. still get the classic look!
Most owners can never put their car fully to the test anyway. If your racing it that's a whole other ball game, tire wise..

Considered this once in the beginning but realistically do not compete with the car enough to make it what I want to look at everyday. Call it old school but these cars originally came with and was used in competition with 15 inch wheels. Bottom line it is all about what our individual needs for these cars has to be.

Very true I think I'll stick with the 15's. If I do start to track it more I would probably buy some 18's with Hoosier slicks. Nothing is worse than sliding around the track on street tires.

When shoding my Cobra, the greatest concern was the number of tires available in a rim size. The second concern was cost. That is why I went with 17 inch rims. Vintage Wheels made the rims with a custom off-set. Vintage Wheels creates an exact requested product! Never a problem getting special requests supplied. The wheels are as important as the tire size in my book.

For the crew that wants to stay with the classic look of 15's and sticking to the original look - are you running the same width in rubber as the '66 Shelby Cobra 427 S/C (front 185x15, rear 195x15)?
