Default McCluskey Cobra Daytona Alloy Coupe w/VIN CSX-2605

1964 Shelby Daytona Coupe for sale | Hemmings Motor News

$349,500

Description:
In 1963, Carroll Shelby realized that he could not beat Ferrari in the World Championship with the Cobra roadster. He needed a faster car and thus asked Peter Brock, former General Motors engineer who worked on the Chevrolet Stingray, to work on a coupe version of the Cobra. Only 6 units of the Cobra Daytona were built by Shelby. For those who dream to own a Cobra Daytona and race it in the historic events, Shelby has allowed the building of 21 "Alloy" Cobra Daytonas Continuation cars built by Mike McCluskey. This one we are offering being the very last one built. It is like new & this sale is unrepeatible. For those who dream to own a Cobra Daytona and race it in the historic events, Shelby has allowed the building of 21 Cobra Daytona built by Mike McCluskey. McCluskey is well known for his restoration work on 3 of the 6 original Cobra Daytonas. Caroll Shelby himself approached McCluskey when he decided to have a new team racing in vintage events with 5 Cobra Daytona continuation cars (the original ones having reached incredible prices). McCluskey had first built continuation Cobra Daytonas on an original 289 Roadster chassis. He then built entire cars from scratch. These cars are fully compliant with the original specifications, the Shelby Registry confirming that "the continuation coupes are exact in their construction, right down to the number of rivets used". Only 21 continuation cobra Daytonas have been built by McCluskey, the unit we are offering being the very last built. The aluminium body and the chassis are a work of art. It has a very high performance Ford 302 mated to a Richmond Super T-10 4-speed close-ratio transmission. Unlike the replicas or continuation models built by Superformance which are high quality cars, but only modern vision of the original car (they are larger & are made from Fiberglass), the car we offer is identical to the original cars, and can be delivered to FIA specification allowing the car to enter one of any major historic events. This is the last McCluskey Cobra Daytona Alloy Coupe w/VIN CSX-2605 and truly a unique opportunity to drive a real Cobra Daytona that has Carroll's blessing.

Gorgeous car!

The asking price was $425,000 USD back in Nov 2013, mind you.

Very nice indeed but definetly not the last McCluskey Coupe built. Last one I believe will bear the CSX 2617 serial number.
