Default CSX3170 on 200TW tires Chapter two

We took the car to a fairly tight Lotus club event Sunday and tried out some new shock valving, more camber and increased chassis rake. The course was pretty tight but they did have a long curved straight that allowed a second gear shot shifting at about 75 MPH. Next week we are going to soften the front springs, soften the rear springs and go up in rear bar diameter to see which works best soft rear spring and big bar or stiff rear springs with a small bar. The car is really starting to come around now even on these no stick tires. The video is pretty boring except for the second gear blast.

Hey Bruce thanks for the update on your awesome set up. I couldn't get the video to work. I'm glad to see your post though it reminded me I wanted to ask whether you thought a rear bar was beneficial on our IRS set ups? You must think they are beneficial to be running one. Is it adjustable and what diameter is it? I assume you have original underslung bar? Did your rear lower arms come with a hook up or did you have to add it?

Hi Nic,
My rear bar is a high mounted design that I fabricated to improve the linkage geometry, the bottom link attaches rearward and outboard of the lower shock mount. I have a set of bars I made up in .5, .562, .750 and 1.00 the 1 inch and .75 bars are hollow with a .125 wall. They all have the same pattern on the ends so that I can bolt a common arm on any of the bars ( lots easier to install) The arm is adjustable from 11" down to about 8.5" so it has quite a range of adjustment. I have run with and without bars adjusting with spring rates so balance is correct, hard to say which is better. The car is traction challenged with these tires so I am going way down on spring rate and up on bar rate to try and reduce wheel spin. This would not work with a Torsen diff but the Salisbury does just fine even with the inside wheel in the air. My experience on road courses was that a .625 rear bar was the biggest that the car worked well with and I used it as fine tuning adjustment with spring changes for major adjustments.
We are trying to get this monster around a tiny parking lot autox so are trying some unconventional approaches. I hope that video will run, I never seem to be able to upload and get the video public and working. I'll check and see why it won't run for you, it shows some pretty fierce acceleration
when you consider the tires we are on.

That's a tease you have to get that baby on a road course and not a limited flat airport area.

Are you in the northeast I'm going early Friday morning for some lap time at MMC. Easy to fly in and out of. Actually Monticello Motor Club's property use to be an airport.

At my advanced age the last place I would want to take that thing is a road course it has a 2.7 weight to power ratio, 90" wheel base and no aerodynamics other than lift.
I cannot imagine getting into third gear let alone fourth because it can actually spin out on the throttle in any gear. Incidentally, I am in Northern California.

I probably would have said yes 20 or 30 years ago but the sand is running out of the hour glass now, so I want as much time as I can get.

Car runs great Bruce. I remember a couple years ago you had a thread with a lot of changes you made and you went with EFI throttle body and was wondering what you ended up putting on it as I love the response in and out of the tight turns?

Thanks Gary, it is a 1650 CFM Wilson throttle body with Fast EFI running in Alpha N mode. Injectors are 65 lb per hour, the response is something else when you consider that is a 3:31 rear end with a 2.1 low gear ratio so it is down around 2500 sometimes and still snaps to when asked.

Nice video, Bruce. But I'm surprised you got you got that slug to run that well, since I keep reading how much better the newer replicas are.

I can think of one shiny new replica I would like to see go up against that slug, that would be KMP 259 of Mr Morris Clement. Not sure if any original or replica could hang with either one of those cars.
Bruce your car is truly outstanding!

Yes Jamo,
That surface is really smooth a little slippery but the best surface other than Castle which we can't use now. Here is some video posted by the lotus club

Wahoo! I liked how the music fades out so we can hear the music of the big stroker. Hooking nicely on those tires Bruce. That Elan had some height in the rear and some roll to go with it.

They were really nice (Lotus Club) and seemed to like the car even though it is
not a precision tool like a Lotus. I guess most folks like the sound of a big booming V8 getting the crap reved out of it.

Fantastic, Bruce! I love that car and the fact that you still flog it around the way nature intended. Thanks for sharing that.
