Default Shower Cap Car Cover

Having relocated to an area where a downpour can pop up out of a clear blue sky and be completely gone in 10 minutes, I think I want to find a quick on "shower cap" type plastic cover to carry in the trunk for emergencies only.

Ideally, I think it would be elastic around the bottom as these showers usually have some wind with them also. I can see being trapped in the car under the thing also, until it passes. Pure emergency cover. I have seen it rain 2 inches in 10 minutes here, then bright blue sky again.

Any ideas or suggestions of something that can go on in a hurry (Backdraft, and I know what the side pipes can do to plastic so I'll work around that) and maybe even toss out and replace once in a while if it's cheap enough. And, hope I never have to use it!

Thanks,

I use a painters clear drop cloth, it covers most of car and I use 4 spring clamps on quick jacks to hold tight.

Razerwire speaks the truth! They are cheap "throw away" and take up little room. You can also tie it to bumpers or poke the knockoff through it if needed in an attempt to secure it. I hade this happen to me on the way back from Tahoe once, it saved the day.

Go on line or e-bay for plastic car covers used by auto body shops.

12 x 22 so big for a cobra but is elasticezed at the botton and can be knotted at the corners for a better fit.

Cheap at about $10 each in 5 pacs. And pacs nice and flat for trips/shows.

Cheers
Greg

I carry a big ass golf umbrella in both cars. They cover the cockpit with room to spare. Not sure how well they'll work in high wind though.

Hang on tight! I have visions of you becoming airborne in high winds. That would be a kick.

And, yes I do rev my engine in a tunnel.

If its not too gusty you can do up to 30-35mph in a cobra in a heavy downpour with a golf umbrella staying nice'n'dry - but you need a friend riding shotgun to stop it blowing back down the road

.......tested that one out in a traffic jam on the first drive to the test station, (no ragtop fitted.....and it was a very very wet October English morning).

Another vote for visqueen. Here is my garage tonneau dust cover. No expense too great for my baby.

I have a cotton car cover but I haven't gotten to the point I can cover the car up and can't walk into the garage to look at it now and then.

I have been thinking about taking my indoor cover that I got on Backdraft Parts and using it as a template to make a cover out of Sunbrella. Sunbrella is the same stuff my boat cover is made of. Sheds water like a duck yet breaths really well. I can cover the boat wet and it is dried out the next day.

I use a soft cover with a waterproof cover over it. Keeps that west Texas dust out pretty well
