Oh hell no!
I think the author trying to imply this was the beginning of the cobra craze copies. Much better real cobras with rich histories that exist than a 4000 series.

I agree with it being on the list for numerous reasons. Much better "real" Coras exist? Maybe to you but not him.
CS was always in business to make money whether in 1962-68 or thereafter. Last I checked so are the fake Cobra makers.
What SAAC accepts as a legitimate Cobra is distinct from what manufactures may legally refer to their cars as. This concept and distinction is beyond the grasp of many here. No need for me to name them as they undoubtedly will reveal themselves in short order I'm sure.

Yep, here we go again...
Is it real or is it Memorex?
I saw another ad for a "65 Shelby Cobra 427" today. When the price wasn't $3M+ I knew exactly what it was.

Clearly. It wouldn't be a real '65. Could still be a real Shelby Cobra.
Asking price can help distinguish. Ageed. When I see ads advertising "Shelby Cobra" or "Cobra" and the price is below a certain level I know it's a fake Cobra/Shelby Cobra and isn't an original series or a continuation series either. Good point.

I watched 2002 being restored by an old Cobra friend who prefers to remain anonymous. Apart from a fantastic mechanical and cosmetic resto, he converted the car to rack and pinion steering in a way that it could be taken back to original (worm and sector) without butchering.

Some people feel bad about themselves, or in this case, what they have.
So they need to bring others down with them.

Consider the source. The article was written 2 years ago, by a "writer" (I use that term very loosely), James Tate, who has written maybe 3-4 auto-related articles in the last 4 years.
He wrote this hard-hitting piece on getting your car ready for summer:
Is your car ready for summer? - MSN Autos
Here's his Bio:
James Tate cut his teeth in the business as a race team crew member before moving to the editorial side as Senior Editor of Sport Compact Car, and his work has appeared in Popular Mechanics, Automobile, Motor Trend and European Car. When not writing, Tate is usually fantasizing about a vintage Porsche 911.
I can understand fantasizing about a 911 ( ), but that doesn't make him Colin Comer or Trevor Legate. Or anyone writing for a significant collector car magazine like say "Keith Martin's Sports Car Market", to which I subscribe.
He also "wrote" (I use that term very loosely) this "I'm going out on a limb" article back in 2011 entitled "10 reasons The NFL is Way More Entertaining Than College Football":
10 Reasons the NFL Is Way More Entertaining Than College Football | Bleacher Report
He's entitled to his opinion, but the Internet is filled with them. So, consider the source.

I'm all for getting this back on topic, as I said before I agree they got the Continuation Cobra pretty much wrong ...
Yep, they botched that one up -
Falacy: The first reproduction of the Shelby Cobra, CSX 4000 gave birth to the kit-car legions of Cobras all over the U.S.
Fact: According to Hemmings there were only 998 original Cobras built - 655 of the 289 models, and 343 427s - all starting with this one here. Since then the trade in Faux-bras has been such a lucrative draw that even Carroll Shelby himself got in on the act, producing a series of 'continuation cars.' Why? Because money, that's why.
Falacy quoted right out of the opening post link.
