Default This is What Pisses me Off!!!!!!

I'm leaving for the Montreal F1 race and I check out Hemmings posts of the day. In the corner is an ad for this Cobra. See this is what pisses me off big time....see the title description.... 1965 SHELBY COBRA 427 SHELBY SEMI COMPETITON

NO WHERE IS THERE A KIRKHAM, REPLICA, OR CONTINUATION IN THE TITLE!!!

This is why guys should be descriptive of what they have and not just post Cobra in a for sale ad.

What the hell is this Cobra anyway? Obviously reading it it is built by Kirkham. Oh it was built by a celebrity CEO or do you mean for one.

Built above a CSX continuation cobra standards....

Nice looking Kirkham.....I guess but not a 1965 Shelby Cobra as title states.

http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/...a/1655406.html

Wasting time reading that when in a rush...wasting time writing this...wasting your time reading this.

What makes me mad are bogus dyno numbers like that. 640 lbft? Yeah, whatever...

No. Onyx is right. The car is being misrepresented Thor may not remember, but there was a (valid) suit against several kit makers who used "Shelby" and "Cobra" in their ads. It is not only lying, it's illegal. Shelby and Cobra are registered trademarks.

Best of Best means,"You can't replace any single component with another component that is better"

Uh, really? So, a stainless steel frame and magnesium Halibrand's would not be considered even better? Just says "carpet". What type of carpet? I hate hyperbole. And no engine pics? I'd like to nit-pick on some things there. Maybe there's a real LS7 under the hood.

As far as the title being misleading, YAWN. Get in line. It's buyer beware anyway, but I can't imagine someone being snookered in 2014.

Anyway, that's one beautiful "hot rod shaped like a Cobra."

The polished aluminum would have been the immeadiate give-away that it's not an original. (although someone out there MAY have polished their original, but I doubt the original bodies are fair enough for that )
That said, I too dislike Cobra REPLICAS being touted as "Shelbys".
Except, of course, the actual "Shelby Replicas".
And now, wait for "Real One" to chime in !!

Did they edit the ad? It says it is titled as a Kirkham. I think people just think of the name as being a Shelby Cobra not realizing Shelby is an actual brand name.

Agreed on the "best of the best" statement. There are quite a few engine items I am not sure are the best by a long shot. They are quite good, but I doubt the "best".

Have to agree with the OP. I also find it annoying when im trawling You-Tube to find 100s of videos, that turn out to be sales ads stating '1965 Shelby Cobra'....and then its an FFR...or SPF or whatever. Nought wrong with replicas, but if its a replica, it aint a 1965 Shelby Cobra.

Maybe things get titled different in the US? In the UK you have to get the car registered for what it is.... a Dax, Crendon, Hawk or Kirkham etc.

I think this is the Kirkham that was built for Larry Ellison. But yeah, a lot of ads really dance around the truth, don't they?

Onyx, I hope you don't waste any time looking under the "1965 Shelby Cobra" heading on eBay.

Larry Ellison's "million dollar skunkworks cobra" had a golden brown leather interior and I very much doubt that it would be sold for $155,000. OBO.

That's why I listed mine on EBay as KMP259 which is a Kirkham but in Illinois it's registered as a 1965 Ford Coupe. But I listed. All of the modifications we did as opposed to just a Kirkham vehicle. And we can list 2 separate web sites to show the build process.....

Why get pissed?? The details say its registered as a Kirkham, Kirkham is even mentioned a second time elsewhere. If the guy called it a "kit car" car it would have probably bothered others. It seems to me too many people are simply get a bit too sensitive about trivial things. Making mountains out of mole hills seem to be the norm these days.

The owner just bought the car and was all over this site looking for help. I owned the car at one time. It is Mark Thompson's old car from California. The current owner is just trying to flip it. Free world.

Great. Wanna advertise your car? Put it under the right heading! If it isn't a 1965 Shelby Cobra, it shouldn't be listed as one. That's pretty simple. You shouldn't have to read the ad to learn it's a facsimile.

If it is a 1965 AC Cobra it would be a 289, if it is listed as a 1965 Shelby Cobra it is almost certainly not an original car unless the auction house listed it then anything goes.

What do you guys call a crescent wrench? If you really say "hand me that adjustable wrench", I would like to know. It is the same thing here. Crescent is a brand name too, but it has also become common terminology. Just like calling a car shaped like that a "cobra". You can call me crazy on this, but 99.999% of the public will call you car a "cobra" too. Just sayin'
