The year on the MSO defines the model year, not when it is sold or registered. I have seen three year old "new" units sold and registered as the MSO indicated model yer, not the calender year.

Yup...ran into Sunshine a couple of years ago at Monterey when he was first starting to go through it. Remember some pics showing the gold paintjob. I can think of no more meticulous (anal retentive) person to entrust with it.

Steve is one of the "old guard". Wish he was still around here. Some of the old crowd I don't miss but he is one I do.

Great guy for sure and one heck of a hot shoe too.

Classic Johnny Mac....Yet you saw him sober, you should have been with us a WGI and around the campfire after a night at the Seneca Lodge.......

Now you have to visit a few miles further south, but have Charlotte to Atlanta as your target.

You guys are off topic. I'd like to suggest a nostalgia thread with a couple of headliners being the subtitled Nazi vid and a link to that breaking, entering and violating of 4027.
Now you're talking some really funny schtuff, especially if you know the players.

You're right...I may ban me for a few days.

That would be a fun thread. All the groups that came together here, the early London gatherings...why don't you start it? You've been around longer than...hell, I think you must've been online waiting for Brent to open this place.

Default Back to Anthony's car, are there old ads showing what previous sellers offered it for

chassis CSX 3047, unrestored, one of approximately 30 SCs built in 1965 and one of only 2 painted Hertz gold by the factory for a promo gig.

The unrestored car spent the previous 25 years in Maryland stored in a garage. I was wondering what earlier owners advertised it for?

I don't mind the incorrect small details==especially ones that can be corrected in 30 minutes (like valve covers)

And how Anthony found it--maybe through a celebrated Cobra hunter?

Maybe it will be at the Fabulous Fords forever again?

I'd be interested in getting opinions on this: if a car has been repainted, hasn't it been (at least partially) restored? To me, an unrestored car is just that: it's got everything on it as it left the factory, including the factory paint. 3047 was repainted, and years later various blades were used to remove the repaint and reveal the scuffed but original gold, except for those places where the blue repaint would not come off and where there was some body filler, such as around the oil scoop. What are your thoughts - is this an "unrestored" car?
CompClassics likes this.

I wonder whether this is the gold SC that Carter Gette had at his Ford dealership in Milbrook, NY in the early 70s. I met Carter through the strange couple who actually owned that car and had advertised it for sale in Autoweek in 1971. But that's a whole 'nother story.

Any help Ned?

IMHO, it is unrestored and simply has more patina.
I parked my Cobra right next to Anthony's #5 red SC at Fabulous Fords a few years ago. Trust me, he leaves everything as original as possible and drives them everywhere! A great guy and true to the legacy.

Methinks it's a "derestored" car.

The original valve covers are sand cast chosen at dealer.
I have the original ones via Jack L.
So 47 has repop covers of the correct ones.

Also the bumper in the Carter picture is hanging in the garage.

Remember these cars are all a bit different especially when it came to owners taste. This car also had black shag carpet at one point and FIA wheels.
The white stripes were added by Jack and Paula in the day via a shaker can.
Can't make this stuff up. Lol. Jack also hated the FIA wheel so off they came and halibrands added.

Believe it or not this car had the cast covers, they were later drilled for the larger breathers. Yuck, but so.
Jack was not a fan so off they came.
BTW when this car was in MD it was driven heavily. Don did not let it sit in the garage for all those years. Was parked when it threw a rod.
Right, replacement block......

My vote would be to gracefully sand back the blue and hit it with light coat of gold. I get the patina but after Steve plucked off the blue it split the paint anyway. Technically it has been repainted once already.

Covers removed by Jack in 74?
I have only related what Jack told me.

From post #35 - yes, Mark, this is the gold car Carter Gette used to own.

And Buzz, "de-restored" is an interesting term. But you can't have a de-restored car if it is original, can you?
