G-Tech and Dynolicious data loggers
Now that my Cobra is on the road I want to measure performance to see (roughly) where I stand. I have Dynolicious on my iPhone, but I understand the accuracy is limited by the sampling rate of the GPS unit in the iPhone. There is a newer version of the app that triangulates data from the GPS and accelerometer and claims to be more accurate, but the reviews say it can be buggy. The other option is to buy a unit like this www.gtechprostore.com. $200 isn't inexpensive, but considering what I've already spent on the car... These are pretty focused devices with 10 MHz sampling rate GPS receivers, so they should be accurate for 0-60, 1/4 mi, etc. Any experience with either of these, or opinions?

Go to the nearest 1/4 mile drag strip within 100 miles and spend the day making passes. Throw out gizmos, drop tire pressures gradually to the 18 pound range. With your 600+ HP you should run high 10's all day if you can drive. You should 60 FT around 1.2 if you learn how to hook it up.

Chas is right. Those gizmos are just toys to play with. If you don't have a drag strip, just drive a half hour or so out of town for a straight stretch of interstate and they all have tenth markers on the side of the road. Double check it with your GPS. Scope out a quarter mile stretch that is straight and has no on ramps. Have your passenger run the stop watch. It's fun, reasonably safe, and sub twelve second numbers are very realistic -- even for the novice. The difference between high elevens and high tens is quite a bit though.

Wow - a 1.2 sec 60 foot time. That takes some serious traction. Holy halfshafts

Guys, I know these things are gizmos. But I still like them and want to get one to fool around with. Just looking to see if anyone has experience with either

My best 60' times are in the 1.3x range. I don't think you're gonna hit 1.2 My last 600 horse car was in the 1.4x range

I had to laugh when I saw the 1.2 60 ft comment. My 60 ft is in the 1.7's on the 10.03 pass in my sig.

By the way, I have a Gtech RR version and have found it to be very accurate for times. The problem is finding a safe place to use it if you want to do more than checking your 0-60 mph.
I remember doing some tire comparisons back to back on the street for 0-60 mph and it was very informative. I had been using Nitto 555r drag radials and compared them to MT ET street radials. The Nitto's were inconsistent with 0-60 mph in the mid to low 3's. The MT's were back to back 0-60 mph in the 2.8's (60 ft in the 1.8's). Cheers.

If you delay one turbo until half-track, you'll 60' lower...

Lippy just has to make sure he doesn't drop a wheel off the side of the interstate and then flip her when he overcorrects....

ERA Chas, not sure where your estimate is based or what you expertise in this area is, but 1.2 60' times usually require at least a drag radial and a drag race setup suspension, front and rear (proper instant center for the rear, springs and shocks). As you've seen from Jack, he gets 1.3 on a 9 sec run. Twin turbo is 1.7 on a 10 sec run. I get 1.7 on a mid-10 sec run as well, with a set up for road courses and running on Nitto NT01 tires, which are not a wrinkle wall drag tire. I'd be interested in your street car times since you seem to be providing advice to folks who are actally running pretty quick for street cars.

I ran 11.8's @ 121 with 1.9 60' times. A 427 @ 550HP with 3.31 Jag. . That on Street TD's (terrible) and BB's (better but no bottom bite). It took me near 9 seconds to go 660 and 3 to go the last 1/8 mile finally hooked.
My 1.2 quote came from racing with a guy that had a Yates SBF CSX. He ran effortless 10.7's on Nitto DR's. He left off idle and ran consistent 1.5-1.6's. The motor made 715 from Yates' dyno at 12:1 compression.
I tried to give OP a little incentive to use (and enjoy) all that power he paid for but he just wants vid game bragging rights.
Jack I believe did that on a live axle but I still marvel at 9's in a Cobra.

No live axle.... C4 Corvette independent rear. I believe with a live axle it would be an 8 second car,......... but we'll never know.

A little harsh, eh? Just because I like to fool around with gadgets doesn't mean I don't "use or enjoy" the power I have.

Yes, they kind of crapped all over your original thread. When I was tracking my cars regularly, I liked using Harry's lap timer on my iPhone. It displays the track with acceleration information as well as taking great video. There may be other modes that do what you want. The author is german and is constantly improving the product. Check it out.

Lippy, I should have got to your point. My wife's SRT8 Challenger has the electronic data logger and accelerometer which integrates for 0-60, or 1/8 mile, or 1/4 mile or whatever and is pretty close to the actuals. So my experience is that the accelermoeter based integrators work just fine, especially to see if changes make improvements. I would try the dynolicious first since it is cheap and then if it doesn't suit your fancy, then go to something more expensive. The technology works.
And don't let folks like ERA Chas dampen your day with taunts that you should be pulling 1.2 sec 60' times. Lots of folks talk big or knew someone, but don't have any real experience in the same ballpark as 1.2 sec 60' times. Have fun with your toy and report back what you find out.
