Default fan cooling

I have a 15" electric fan pushing air thru the radiator, my motor overheats.
I heard that if you install the fan on the inside and pull the air thru that it would keep the water much cooler. Any suggestions? 5.O ford. Water is circulating just fine.

Air flow through the radiator is always smoother and more laminar if it is pulled through the radiator than if fans push it through . I`m not saying pusher fans won`t help , just saying pulling the air vs pushing it is always better .... assuming everything is shrouded correctly .
FWIW , my ERA has a single pull through fan and on the track during the summer ( ambients in the mid 90`s ) water temps are in the 190 to 200 degree range and on the street at mid 90`s to low 100`s , I see 180 on the highway and 195 around town .
Try to find a way to mount that fan behind the radiator and pull the air through ..... and be sure the shrouds are in place .

Also make sure the blade is the right way round. If you can get it on the back as a puller it will be more effective for sure. When you take it out to switch it hook it up to your charger or a battery and see which way pushes more air. You want that side facing back.

I have a Lincoln MK8 electric fan ,drove 50 miles today in 98* temp was 185* in traffic Taurus Mark VIII Fan Information so far this setup
has been a great in Texas heat. happy camper for me .

Besides the fan, also make sure your radiator hoses are not partially collapsing when hot.

Also make sure the shroud is made correctly so as to not have dead air pockets. I had a friend here who spent a month trying to figure out why his Cobra would overheat and he finally took it to a radiator shop that had some kind of air flow test and found out that he had a lot of dead air space in the shroud which cut down the cool air coming through the radiator. They made a new shroud and his overheating went away.

You got it!!! I tried 3 fans before getting to the Lincoln Mark VIII. Drops the temps like a hammer. Had to upgrade the alternator and warn any kid under 85 pounds to NOT stand in front of the car.

One thing that gets overlooked a lot is shrouding all the air that comes in through the nose area should have to pass the through the radiator and not be able to go around it. Of course the systems need to be purged of all air which is another ill of cooling in these cars.

X2 on shrouding the space between the nose and the radiator in front. If the air coming in isn't going through the radiator it's being wasted and you'd be surprised how much that is.

Yes I thought pulling would be better, so I went to see if it was possible to switch but unfortunately there isn't enough space to fit the fan. only about 2.5 inch also can't move rad foreword. What do you think about the idea of mounting four 7 or 8 inch fans to push?

Just so a post about an MK8 fan sounds interesting, Does this fan push?

I have a midstates which is now shell valley and after many fans and not fixing overheating problems I went to the lincoln 2 sprrd fan with shroud and it fixed the overheating issues. Got mine in a salvage yard. $15.00 and ordered the wiring kit w/temp sensors from a place in Houston Tx.. Good luck

Are you using it to push or pull? Because I also have aShell Valley and the fans won't fit on the motor side of rad.

I have a Shell Valley. I use their pusher fan (don't recall make) with no shroud, however in the Shell Valley there was enough room in the engine compartment to throw 2 engines in so there was plenty of room to run the mechanical fan in addition to the electric and never a heating problem. I'm assuming you called them at Shell, super friendly and very knowledgeable when it comes to their product.

haha space is great, I am using there stock 16 inch to push, however I never thought to add a fan to the water pump. GREAT IDEA! Ill check that out for sure

Yes, by all means pull the air through the radiator. I just put in a new radiator with a 17in puller fan. Get your fan blades as close as possible to the radiator. I was worried about cooling when I changed engines with much more horsepower as it gets pretty hot here. Drove it the other day in 103 degrees and it didn't even go above normal. Very pleased with this set up.

I use a pull type. My rad was modifided and set up in the nose of car. My 408 has not overheated since I changed to the lincoln fan system.

Cant fit a puller fan on RAD not enough space (thats one of the issues, so Im pushing with a 16in electric and want to add mechanical fan to pump pulley and pull from there as well.

Unless it's over 80 degrees (2 or 3 times a year in WA), my mechanical will keep the engine below 190 degrees without the assist of the electric fan.

Can you post a pic? Wondering what the hell you have stuffed in front of the motor that prevents enough room...or is the radiator mounted too far back or ???
