Default New Build ERA 806

Well the day finally came, ERA 806 was delivered on 8/2. I had them powder coat the chassis and bond the body and Connecticut Custom did the Guardsman Blue with Wimbledon White stripes. I also had them fit the top and tonneau cover but everything else will be done by me. The major things are ERA rear with outboard brakes, big front brakes, SS side pipes, Smiths, 482 FE and TKO 600. It's amazing how many people show up to help when a cobra is being unloaded.

Looks great, and congratulations. Please post many pictures as you progress.
That would have been some push up the driveway without help!
Who is building the engine?
Cheers,
Glen

Nice! I just finished ERA 797 earlier this year, though I'm still working through a few things. You will be amazed how well the kit goes together. You will find this forum to be really helpful, as I did. Doug at ERA is really good too. PM me if you want to chat before you get rolling.

That brings back memories of my delivery day - except there was about 8 inches of snow on the ground. Looking forward to your progress.

I won't need the engine until at least the end of the year and there is one locally if it's still available. If not it will be a Keith Craft 482 FE and they are only 250 mile away.

Keith Craft will treat you right. At the time I was having my engine built he had 482s sitting in inventory ready to go to Kirkham (or anywhere else as needed) when called for (at least as it was explained to me). If your local one doesn't pan out he may be able to service you on short notice. His shop makes for an interesting visit - usually some very interesting stuff in it.

Congrats, looks great! There are a number of us who have recently completed our ERAs and are happy to help. Lot's of knowledgeable folks here to answer questions as they come up.

Enjoy!

You have a nice start. Nice looking car and everyone at ERA and in this forum will be happy to offer guidance along the way. Have fun with the build.

The car is going together very well, after 2 weeks and about 30 hours I have a pretty good start on it. All the wiring is in and hooked up, weather stripping is on,the dash and column are installed, MSD box mounted and wiper motor and assembly installed. I lizard skinned the entire interior including the trunk and added some dynamat to the foot boxes. I have to give credit to ERA, every where you think a clamp should be for the wiring or battery cables they have a hole pre-drilled and in most cases the clamp already installed.

I have put all the suspension and brakes on, including sway bars, steering and brake lines. I also finished up all the carpet, doors and map pockets.

For anyone who has done a ERA rear was there anything special to setting it up other than the lengths on the upper and lower links? Or is that something that an alignment shop would do?

Hi, Gary:

I've had my ERA rear out of the car and there wasn't anything of note aside from the rod lengths you cite. Just take the pages out of the manual to your alignment shop to give them a primer on the ERA adjustment methodology and you should be fine. Just make sure when hooking up your parking brake that you don't over tighten the adjustment as to cause the pads to drag on the discs. When I did mine, I made sure there was the slightest bit of slack in the cable back where the clevis hooks on the lever back at the caliper when the P-brake handle is fully disengaged.

Thanks for the reply, I did talk to Doug at ERA this morning and said the same thing. It just went so smooth I thought I might have missed something. Good tip on the p-brake, that's later this week.

It's been awhile since I updated my build, mainly since I didn't work on the car in October or November. The engine and trans came in early December and I put them in this week. I took Doug's advice and assembled everything on the floor and then installed the engine/flywheel in the chassis and then put in the clutch/bell housing and trans from inside the car. It went really well with just 2 people and took about 6 hours start to finish, including renting the lift.
