Very cool! My grandfather was a p51 pilot and the level of craftsmanship and creativity has me going back to look at his plane pics.

Default First Shake Down Flight (Cruise)

Well the NJ weather cooperated today. Hit 57 degrees. So we took the P-51 out for its initial shake down cruise. Thanks to the guys at ERA for sprucing up our 11 year old car and for Ron and Pedro for the transformation. We were out for about an hour and a half and everything worked great. Tonya was like a kid on Christmas with the open header switch. Love that rumble when the exhaust is wide open!

Ron - I did find the oil leak behind the dash. Was the oil pressure gauge line. Only took 6 hours and three trips to the auto parts store. Good thing I started early this morning working on it!

The details and craftsmanship are brilliant. This has real hot rod ingenuity all over it.

Yeah I love it, very nicely done. It's great to see something different and unique. Get a GT40 and do the same process...just saying..

Rick
Glad you got to do some driving before the weather got to cold.
I was hoping that oil leak was going to be an easy fix but it sure is tight behind the dash. Let Tonya know I was doing the same thing when I took it out for test drives and to my surprise I notice any exhaust smell when the ports are open when driving

How many thumbs up, honking horns and flashing lights did you get!!

Default It's Been A Long Winter ...

... We finally got the P-51 Cobra out of the garage yesterday following it's long winter nap. Fired right up and ran great. Love pushing the exhaust through those 12 port exhaust pipes!

Lots thumbs up and open mouth stares!

While I was working on the car on Saturday, we were buzzed several times by a B-29 from the Commemorative Air Force, flying out of the N.E. Philly airport.

They're going to be in Reading, PA this weekend, so if the weather holds out we may drive over there and see if they need a fighter escort!

That is brilliant - I bet it causes a sensation wherever you go.

What about gun sights mounted on the dashboard in front of the driver?

I believe the B29 is FIFI. Had this picture taken when she was in St. Louis. Took a little effort to get on the ramp but well worth the effort. Good luck. Bruce
