I've long thought that NOTHING looks like less fun than driving a race car in the rain.

Hmm, I was there for that race i think. My son (10) is still shouting at me for not wearing ear protection (wadjasaylad? ) when we stood next to the trackside...its knocked a few dB off my top end, and the tinnitus def got worse after.

That brings back memories of driving my Cobra in the rain in a Spring rally a few years ago. I had to maintain 55 mph to keep the rain out of our faces, but some of the roads were so twisty I couldn't. I nearly slid off once but managed to catch it. The driver in this video is "catching it" constantly and passing other very valuable cars too. It is so much harder in a mid engine car like the GT40. What an amazing drive! Thanks for sharing it.

I've watched several Kenny Brack videos now, all characterized by furious wheel twirling.

I wonder if someone like Walter Rohrl had been driving this car in those conditions whether the on-camera action would have been as frantic? He teaches that in less than ideal conditions, small and delicate wheel movements are called for. Some of the Scandinavian rally drivers, used to dealing in micro throttle increments to maintain traction, would also have been within a few tenths of Brack's times at Goodwood without the needless wheelspin and associated hysteria. Even the great Mario Andretti was renowned for his calm and meticulous driving style, and he wasn't slow!

But yes, I agree, the clip is entertaining enough, in a "Gone in Sixty Seconds" kind of way.

Although I agree with Donunder regarding the fact that all that sliding might not be the quickest way around the track in those conditions, I would still love to be able to achieve that level of car control and confidence in my abilities.

Rain and a car with a bad weight distribution AND Dunlop cross-ply tires ---- good way to kill yourself...
