I believe that all the new. Reproduced camper heads are in aluminum.with external rear. Drain backs.orginal camper heads were cast iron with internal drain backs, and original camper. Heads in aluminum were only given. To sponsored racers like mucky thompson.are rare.please correct me if my info is not accurate. My source is ottoman ford engineer

My cammer is reproduced, it didn't have external drain backs anywhere. When it goes back together however it will have external drains on the rear of the heads and a -10 line to the front of the sump to help feed oil back to the pump under hard acceleration. We are also modifying the oiling system at the front galleries in the heads with a squirter on each head to add more oiling to the chain set. Other modifications are custom pistons with the reference point moved upwards as the Shelby block sleeves are to short for a stroker if you want any longevity out of one of these (when the engine was originally built the pistons protruded out the bottom of the sleeve .450") we have also resleeved the block with sleeves that are .300" longer. Timing chain will also get some modifications to the guides to help take some of the whip out of the chain between the 2 heads.

Hi Damage thanks for the great tech info.that we all benefit from ,as you are willing to share. Does the aftermarket blocks need additional work to add the internal drain holes?
does you heads have provisions for internal drainbacks and you chose to run external?
also do you advise lash caps ?

The cammer has an internal drain at the rear of each head, they are only about 5/16, for the short time that my engine was running it seemed to drop oil pressure as the RPM increased so my natural assumption was not enough oil flowing back to the sump. The other issue is that the oil pump is located at the front of the engine so this oil has to basically flow against g force of acceleration to make it back to the oil pump hence why I am running my return lines to the front of the sump. The return galleries in the block could possibly be made larger but I wasn't sure how much meat was around them so choose external returns. From what I can see with the cammer the main oil return is via the large hole at the front of the head, which is great if your in stop start situations but for periods of long acceleration or say and extended up hill grade then I couldn't see enough of the slippery stuff getting back to the sump to run around and do it's job properly.

I remember someone making a gear drive set up for these engines, it seems it would solve all of the downfalls of the chain, I wonder why has it not been pursued,
