My wife did mention recently that the new vette looked pretty nice. I'll just remind her of the price of one.

Really? The new Corvette that has Camaro tailights and looks like a refugee from a Transformers movie? That one?
If so, then the Cobra may not be for you.
Most folks just skip the Cobra step and buy the Vette/Z06. Geez, you get cupholders, a nice radio and those fancy new ignition switches that'll hopefully work as intended. Everything "NewYorkGuy" dreams about.

And I hear it has a 4-bag "kitty litter" hauling capacity, for when NewYorkGuy moves to Long Island.

Since I am a newby, I will share my thoughts. I bought my Cobra last November, ERA 714. Yes, I have had some issues, wrong starter, leaky stub axle, but that has been about it. I have put on about 2,000 miles and it has been a blast. I have no heater and am 6'2" and the car is not uncomfortable and I could stay in it for hours. It is well equipped with an aluminum 427 FE pushed out to 468 CID and is over 500 on HP and torque. Cobras are not for everyone. I however wanted one since I was 18 and finally got in a position to buy one. After a year of usage, I would not trade it. The only PITA has been the close quarters when working on one. That issue tends to follow small sports cars. You get used to it though and learn patience. I treat it with respect as I am still learning how to drive it. It leaves a smell of gas in the garage when its shut down and idles a little high. However, I like the smells sounds and fun it creates.
I too cannot understand why some hang around this site with the antagonism to the word replica. Since many of these replicas are built better than originals, and the originals are beyond most folks price range, my Cobra is about the closest I will ever get to the real thing, and for me, although it does not have a CSX stamp, its everything I expected from one.

I have been told, by true owners of original big block Cobra cars, that they were just as unreliable, and maybe even more so, than our replicas.

another friend has a Unique with a 1965 427 side oiler for sale. The motor was stroked by Keith Craft to 487 and makes 617.9 hp 632 tq. It's 9:1 or 9.5:1 compression. It has 2" headers and Classic side pipes. Jag rear end, TKO 3550, heater, build in 1991 tagged as a 1966 in Alabama.
Very Very fast. Sounds like a big big block. When he pulls into a car show everybody stops what they doing and looks. I've seen this happen several times.
Very streetable car. No overheating problems. Mike spend over $40 on this car after he bought.
Asking $52,000
Dwight

Roddo, If you ever get that SOHC you've lusted after, you can join the "LESS THAN 3 LBS/HP CLUB of AMERICA". The club is free but entry is expensive

Mine is a small block model with a small block engine - I'm very happy with 4.75 pounds per HP. In my opinion that is a very good number.

First off, where are my pics of the Vintage Gold wheels on your car? Huh, where? Did I miss it?
And secondly, I think it would be much easier and cheaper to run my car without doors, hood and trunk lid and reduce the equation's denominator before spending $40K on a SOHC engine.
And the driver is already svelte, so not much to lose around the mid section either.

SB are generally cheaper than a BB. #1 reason you see them in BB bodied cars.
IMHO SBs belong in 289 cars. BB belong is 427 cars. The end.
