Default Larger side vent opening

I remember seeing an image way back of a race cobra with significantly enlarged side vents. Would anyone here happen to have any images of old race cobras with this modification?

Thanks,
Mike

2142 next to it also had the vents. I sure wish 2131 still looked like that!

They were the first Cobras to get louvers. The wheels were D type Jag I believe. The trunk lid hinged on the bottom edge with a half lid because of the hard top with a tube from a roof fuel filler to the body location. One of the 3 had two hinged half trunk lids. A lot of screws held the rear window in as they wanted to suck out at speed.

Thanks guys. The ones I am looking for were larger than that and didn't have louvers. The opening was much larger and not a parallelogram. I'm thinking it was on a couple of later race cars.

There has been custom work done on lots of original cars over the years, even back in the day but as far as I know no car was produced with a larger vent than the ones pictured. Maybe "The Turd"???

That's why I called it a mod. It was not production, but on some cars raced back in the 60s.
Thanks,
Mike

The testing that we have done reveals that no air comes out of those vents.....in fact the area is a turblent area because the width of the front wheels....

Glad you weighed in Morris, so you think nose air goes out the bottom?
2048 had some big rectangular doors at the bottom rear of the front fenders. They could be opened and closed to supposedly flow some air.

E-Type wheels Nick, from the light weight (LWE). Dunlop produced both but the D wheel was a two piece with round vent holes. The centers were riveted to the outer rim. E type wheels were one piece with rectangular "slot" (10) vent holes.

You mean testing with your configuration. You have not tested with mine. My aerodynamics aren't even remotely similar to any other Cobra.

I'm just wanting to see some old pics of the big openings too see how they looked.

Thanks,
Mike

Some Austin Healey's were modified with a vent behind the front wheels. Kind of nice looking in a sort-of-triangular style. I can look for a couple pics later.

Those look like they're far enough back to open into the foot wells, rather than trying to vent the engine compartment or wheel wells. Good idea, though certainly not something often seen. Obviously more appropriate on a street car than a competition car - as they certainly look like they'd induce some drag.

Interesting to see the different brake cooling openings on CSX2131 - large cutouts under the parking / turn signal lamps.

Hey Mike, curious to see what's different about your aero setup, do you have any pictures?

Cheers,

Cheers,
Rear looking forward. If you look closely, in front of the passenger footbox, you can see a triangular vent. It is on both sides and vents the header heat under the car. The diffuser continues to forward of the rear tires.

Here is the vent up close. It's the same on both sides.

Ram air system

Radiator ducting

Footbox and underhood sheet metal.

And a whole lot more.

What have you done up front to keep it down as well at high speeds? Do you have any calculations on your diffusor on what speed it becomes effective at?
