Am I reading this correctly, you could do 36 pull ups 2 yrs ago? I'd say fewer than 1 in 50,000 could do that.

I think I actually did 40--but I really can't remember. We were playing "Dessert" after our workout. "Dessert" is when you all get finished and someone yells, "Dessert!" Whoever yelled it first got to choose their favorite exercise to challenge (read humiliate) the other guy.

We usually did this after a 10 mile run through the city and parks laced with pull ups, push ups, hill climbs, and any other sort of torture we could think up. I loved working out with that guy.

I always got him back with presses. I could press 175 x 5 reps. (Standing press with a barbell). I want to press 200 in 2015.

That sounds pretty elite level to me. Were you or your nephew ever able to do a true one handed pull up?

My nephew could. He is in his 20's. I am pretty sure I could have...however, I never tried. I didn't want to tear my bicep. When I got to so many reps it was just too much and so I started tying plates or kettlebells to my lifting belt.

Kettlebells are WAY easier to do pullups with than bumpers.

As for elite...me, no. My nephew...yes. Me no...I just refuse to give up. I used to tell my kids, "You can run away...but I will eventually catch you. It may take 50 miles but I will catch you." They knew it.

Today, however, my sons are pretty awesome endurance monsters and can run circles around me. What do you expect--they are 18. One of them took his shirt off last year in the Snow Shoe Marathon and ran down the mountain side waving to everyone (my wife and I were climbing up the mountain at the time). It was 6 degrees outside. They are some of the toughest guys I have ever seen.

Are you "kipping" with your pull-ups? If you're not "kipping" then 36-40 in a row is even that much more impressive. Do you also do "muscle-ups"?

Military (standing) presses with 175lbs (and shooting for 200) is elite level. Twin Turbo is correct. 1 in 50,000 Crossfit members may be more like it.

You ought to think about the Crossfit Championships in 2015, because those numbers could qualify you, though probably not Top 10 placement.

A big yup!
My son is in his last year at UCLA and in 3 intramural basketball teams, practices and works out with the varsity team too. Point guard...not huge but solid like a rock. He came home for Holidays and I finally looked at him and said to myself "Damn! This kid may just be finally be able to kick my ass!"
It is a turning point for many I am sure...

Yes, the pull ups were kipping. I am thinking I did 40 now that I have thought about it for a while. I was showing off to my wife

I really am not elite by any means. I gained weight this year and my cardio has gone down quite a bit with my buyout of Thomas. I actually don't do Crossfit any more because of my heart attack. I just can't risk the chronic inflammation. That is probably a discussion for another thread, however. I still enjoy rowing, skiing, and kettlebells. I have a 100 pound kettlebell I used to swing. I probably couldn't do that now. I am more into barbells. My brother, however, swings that monster 1 handed...really. It's incredible to watch.

I really like hiking, and truth be told, I lift to hike with my nephew, sons, dog, and wife. I always loved hiking. My wife, however...she is unbelievable with Crossfit.

Never thought a thread here would drift into CrossFit ��

As long as you have the mobility to squat you can clean, if you overheadsquat you can snatch. Just find a good coach and learn. Gives a ton of extra variation for your barbell work ��

JJ - CF Level 1 trainer with an extra love for the coordination complex things ��

300 pounds? Yeah, before Thanksgiving and Christmas I felt like 200 pounds, actual weight, now I feel like 300 hahaha -- drinking Coffee and having a danish with my wife....

Blame David for the thread drift. He started it with the "feats of strength."

Of course, this is an area of interest for me as well. Cobras I mean.

Bill, I don't think working on the Cobra will burn off all the calories of a danish unless Pete is both pulling and re-installing his drivetrain today.

If he had a brushed finish Kirkham it would. Just think about taking a fine grit scotch-bright pad to the entire car to freshen things up and how many calories that would burn off.

Don't blame me! Someone else asked. This thread needed to lighten up anyway.

Talked to my nephew today at Christmas dinner. I did 46 pull-ups that day (in a row). He remembered because that was how old I was when we did that crazy Dessert. Rocky probably did 10 up and 10 down I measured one of his leaps at 16 feet--uphill! He is the most graceful creature I have ever seen. I love that guy. There was over a foot of fresh snow on the trail. I absolutely love the canyons in the quiet snow.

I PR'd 36 pullups 2 years ago, probably could do 15-20 now.

I don't run the 1.5 mile stuff. Pretty boring. I have entered the Squaw Peak 50 twice. Ran 30 and 36 miles in the mountains. Bowed out--that was tough. I ran the Snow Shoe Marathon in the mountains 3 times. The last time I only did 22 miles and bowed out with IT pain (it was only 3 months after my heart attack so I hadn't been training).
