Some things to consider...

It could be that this person is just ham-handed on the keyboard and doesn't realize the proper way to make an impression to an audience that is filled with generally more successful people, and scumbag Florida Crackers like me. Germans have been accused of worse...

If they are putting an aluminium body on a chassis, it'd be worth looking at.

If I had the money, I'd own a Kirkham and wouldn't care what anyone else is doing... except Kenny Thompson...

Here is what the FL Dept of State says about the outfit. I do wonder why they have an 813 (Tampa) phone number on the website. I don't have a dog in this, it's just interesting...

One has to ask what FFR has to say about any of this...

[QUOTE=twobjshelbys;1331114]"Well, OK Tom, how about providing us with the following:

Get one of your happy customers to send us photos of the completed vehicle with power train installed and registered somewhere.

The more the better because 1 does not make any kind of trustworthy source.

In fact, even one of your other vehicles would go a long way towards establishing trust. I see all kinds of references to other things, but noone even here has stepped in and said "yeah, I saw one of those and was (impressed, depressed)".

Right now you have zero, no, negative, credibility...
"

Bingo. Zactly. Was about to say the same.

Look Alloycars this thread is not going well for you...in fact its going quite badly for you and getting worse. I could pile on with some of my own observations but I will not. Instead I offer the following advice.

This is all about credibility of which you seem to have squandered at the outset in a multitude of ways.

Right now you have three choices as I see it.

1. Continue being argumentative and combative with the members (many of whom are very knowledgeable and have been around Cobras and replicas thereof for decades) which is being viewed worldwide by many other Cobra enthusiasts. (This would not be my choice btw).

2. Go away and not come back.

3. Go away and come back with some credible proof that you have sold and completed workmanlike replicas in arruminum for at least a sampling of your claimed 150 customers. E.g. Customer photos and testimonials might help.

Using photos of others products for your sales sites does not get you off to a roaring start here but I guess you figured that out by now.

I will go one further and offer to have a completed car shipped to the location of this club's choice within the next 5 days for inspection. I would use Reliable Carriers and have it insured for the trip.
Clock starts now....

What a dumb demand. If these guys produced and sold cars from south Africa, why would they ship one to the USA for you guys to look at?

Give alloy cars a chance, it is obvious the salesman is a bit over enthusiastic, and silly to use others photos, but...make some cars and show us.

BevanWright,
Alloycars makes them in Florida. They claim to have sold 150 to South America.
Yet no pics.
No satisfied customers to speak of.
No one's heard of them.
They use other manufacturer's photos.
We gave them a chance.
It's time to put up or shut up.
And if I'm not mistaken, they've chosen to shut up.
The internet is a game changer. If you think about it, this all happened very fast.
In the old days, there would have been dozens of sob stories and unfinished Cobras.

I've been around Cobras for 20+ years in the UK and Europe and I've never heard of them either.

Just saying.

If I recall, it seems that Tom said something like they produced these cobra replicas earlier and then sort of took a hiatus from building them and are now just getting back in the game. But then I think he said he still owned the last one built before the break in production. Why doesn't he show us some pictures of that car? Or better yet bring his personal car to his shop for some local cobra club members to check out?

Perhaps his personal car is a bit old and not in show car condition from being a regular driver so the paint might not be as shiny as it could be, etc., but then again why not show us a car with some miles on it to show that it can be reliable driver?

You know Shelby was a bit of a snake oil salesman and could exaggerate a bit. Maybe Tom is too. Perhaps the actual number of cobra replicas built is somewhere between 1 and 150 cars and just maybe that number is actually a lot closer to 1 than 150. Well, lets at least see his personal car to show some proof. Even if he conveniently keeps his personal car at his vacation residence in Paris, Beijing or Hyderbad, there is probably some club cobra member who could stop by to check it out.

Option 4. Ship a free aluminium cobra body to me in the Netherlands and I will build a Cobra with that body then I will make photos for this forum. :-)

That's true - he's probably wringing his hands in glee over each volley.

I was trying to develop the corelation between Alloycars and Carrol Shelby's marketing practices in my mind just about when IntCobra posted. Maybe there is genius at work here.

Re: Bernica - I wonder how aware or invovled (oe unaware) FFR is in this adventure? It would be an interesting match up between the two to offer an alloy body option for the FFR MKIV through FFR. Although I'm not sure the market would be there at $90K +/-.

Tom of AlloyCars,

You really cut your own throat in two major ways:

1. You used photos of finished cars that were not yours to advertise your product. That automatically caused mistrust in the community of potential buyers for your product.

2. You came to this site and posted a hostile response to what was a hostile thread. If you knew ANYTHING about sales, you'd know that the last thing you should have done was react in a hostile manner!

If you want any credibility in this industry, you should apologize personally to the people from whom you swiped the pictures and publicly to the community at large. Then you should get yourself a copy editor because your English sucks in print and is just pissing people off more and more. You may have a perfectly viable product in the pipeline but it's never going to get off the ground if you can't speak about it in an intelligible, professional manner.

Best of luck.

That cried out Greg, I knew it is his car and asked "Tom" about it and got the usual flimsy answer.

Same here. While I can remember a few instances (well, maybe more than a few ) of Shelby's questionable marketing practices, I don't recall him ever hurling insults wholesale at potential customers.

Shelby would paint the same car three different colors to give the illusion that he had inventory to offer. This guy can't even build one to display. Carroll was clearly the better huckster. Half-time score: Shelby 1, "Tom" 0.
