Default I am a dumbass non cobra

So I drive my 2009 F150 up my 250 foot driveway to get the paper which I sometimes do in the cold winter. I pull alongside the paperbox and roll down the window but still cannot reach it as it was all the way in the rear of the box!

So I pull forward and get out to go back to get the paper. As I reach for the paper I feel someone bump my butt except the bump is my truck door! I had not reached park the damn truck was in reverse with the door wide open!
I had the choice of trying to jump in off balance or step back and let the mailbox eat my door!

I chose the latter, and watched my truck destroy the door in slow motion as it idled the door to a new meaning of open

$3800 later it got clear of the mailbox and I was able to step into the truck and put it in park. Now this truck has never had a scratch on it as I take care of it similar to the cobra.
Well better safe than sorry I guess and I can have my insurance fix the truck but what a way to start the morning.

Sorry for the damage, but that must be one heck of a mailbox. Have a better day.

Be happy that you were smart enough to not take that step which would have potentiality crushed you between the truck and the mailbox.

Thumbs up

What Bill said. The door can be replaced a lot easier than your life or limbs. Maybe now you have all of your bad luck out of the way for next year. Have a Merry Christmas and be thankful that you weren't hurt.

Ron

Sometimes it's really tough being human, can only imagine what a new meaning of open must have looked like.

This incident rings too close to home. We lost one of our employees to an exact scenario where he was visiting one of our field operations and was run over by his truck rolling bacwards when his door knocked him over. Investigation identified he did not put the truck in park. Happened this year so his family is without a father this Christmas ...real tragedy which could have been avoided. Bottom line: you are very lucky and blessed to be spending today with yours. Good on you for also not being a hero and jump into the truck. Count your blessings brother!

Don't beat yourself up too bad. We have all done absent minded stuff. I got out of my wife's SUV once to get something and just forgot to put it in park and watched it drive away by itself. Jumped back in and hit be E brake button.

Chit happens.

Truly that is The Suck, but it really can happen faster than one can imagine.
My wife was backing out of the driveway, stopped to get out and get something from the house. Park wasn't set. Only a little room between door and house. Mother in law was in passenger seat and was able to reach across and set emergency brake just in time. Everyone ok, but almost a tragedy.

Glad you are fine, man!

I will take a picture of the door seam when I get back home. Thanks for the kind words and yes I am glad I bailed out and let the truck go.
