Two Cobras at Barrett Jackson
Lot 1093, CSX6160, Guardsman blue with white stripes, sold for 115,500.
1965 SHELBY COBRA CSX 6000 ROADSTER - Barrett-Jackson Auction Company - World's Greatest Collector Car Auctions
Lot 1128, CSX6162 listed as "blue" with white stripes sold for 161,700.
1965 SHELBY COBRA CSX 6000 ROADSTER - Barrett-Jackson Auction Company - World's Greatest Collector Car Auctions
Either someone got a smoking deal on 6160 or "powered by alcohol" got some seller a really good margin on 6162.

Maybe the alchohal-fueled bidders thought the racing windscreen gave 6162 a true racing heritage.

Maybe I am wrong, but it seems to me that overall the prices are down some this year.

The true big ticket buyers are waiting for the cream of the crop to bid on this afternoon and this evening. The rest, well, you already saw it, prices are down, but then for some of the muscle cars, the quality was not there either. Wrong engines, color changes, driver class detailing, and that had a trickle down effect on the really nice muscle cars as well.
Restomods, hot rods, and such are up 35-50% this year and seem to be what the buyers were looking for. May point to a fundamental shift it buyer ages and mentality, as the guys from the 60 and early 70's who wanted to relive their youth give way to more of the guys/gals from the late 70's and early 80's who now want to do the same. I even saw a few 18-22 year olds (two 12 and 15 year olds) with their own unique bidder badges, and who knows what they are after, or what their mindset is.

Some of the crap their throwing big money at makes no sense to me and cars that should sell for more are not. Maybe Bill is right.

I thought the comp 6000 car was awesome however the better buy was the other cars as they could be comped out for little money.
Right?
Thought the same. Buyer paid premium for perceived race car versus street car.
$46,000 premium for rondel and comp screen?
At auction perception pays dividends.
If you go to auction be different it pays.

I couldn't agree more. The new gen won't get the Cobras unless their Dad schooled them. They dig the resto-mods and all the flash, or a 1,000 hp tuner car. We have a new generation of kids with money and we all have to realize that sooner or later we may become dinosaurs and head to the tar pit.
Sorry, but someone had to say it!

You and Bill S. are right on the money. Last year I think my son and I only took the Cobra to two car shows (both rather large). The overwhelming majority of displayers were 60 or older, with a good many of them barely ambulatory.

Lot 1275, CSX6170, just sold for 105K. All of these are so closely packed in VIN sequence that I suspect they all came from the same source. Stephen Becker? His web site no longer lists his inventory.

Time is much more of a factor than features... The comp car crossed when the big evening money was in the room.

Face it. We're all dying. And we should live it up a little. So let's all paint our Cobras beige.
What we need is more potential cat loving, subway riding, Leaf driving, Manhattan-types looking for hot rods shaped like Cobras.

I think that one could have gone for 50k more if the painter wasn't drunk under a bridge when he painted the number 31 on a goofy angle.
