CSX Cobra Rear Axle Stamp
Did all continuation CSX Cobras get the Aluminum rear axle stamped at shelby?
Today I opened the aluminum panel to access rear center section from trunk and while looking at the rear end I noticed a CSX number stamped into the rear end. I also have discovered the cars number written in black marker on at least 7 different bare aluminum panels while rolling around under and around the car. but the rear axle is actually stamped CSX---.

We have made a ton of differentials for Shelby. We don't stamp CSX anything into them.

David thank you for the reply. My car was around 2005 era. Have you always made the rear axle for Shelby? Or have they sourced others for this part. See photo of my rear end from csx car.

Hmmm, that's not a VIN number...

Could it be they numbered the rear ends like the engine blocks? Does anyone else with a CSX Cobra have these numbers on the Center Section?

When I get a chance I will check mine. I know my engine block is stamped with a CSX number (not the vin) and there are several numbers in random places under the car to identify the actual car number which I believe was done during the build to identify which parts go to which car.

I think we started making differentials for Superformance (who installed them in Shelby rollers) around 2006. As we have never stamped CSX in anything, maybe Superformance, or Shelby, stamped them. Not sure.
We have repaired many, many differentials from that era in Shelby's (differentials we didn't make). Please send a pic of your differential from below so I can see the axle housings and the axles. Also, we stamp our differentials on the bottom, right beside the drain plug. I can probably tell who made it with a pic from below. Make sure you get the entire differential in the pic.

David this car is one of the 13 CSX 1000 Cars with Aluminum Body by AC in England. The black rear cover says DANA.

Not our differential.
The DANA on the back means the differential is a DANA unit. Original Cobras ran DANA 44 units.
I hate to tell you this but I suggest you inspect your axles to see if they are twisted or cracked.

I have the car up in the air on a lift so I was able to inspect the axels and can't find any sign of cracks or twisting. Was this a problem on Shelbys having bad axle shafts? It looks likes a aluminum shelby center section with Dana guts. I have a Hemi Cuda with a dana and have torn up everything but the Dana racing it. Always had good luck with them. But sounds like I may need to keep an eye on axel shafts?

354 is the gear ratio, the CSX is just to identify that it was a part that was supplied by SAI, SAI acquired it from the vendor..........Kirkham in this instance.

Mullen,
Comp Classics beat me to it. 354 denotes the ratio. And a good one to have, I believe.

I am talking about the differential stub axles--not the 1/2 shafts. You have to pull the axles out of the differential to inspect them. You can't inspect the axles unless you pull them out of the differential. It is a fairly big job.

We did not supply this particular differential. We have supplied many, many others.

I stand corrected, I wasn't aware that anyone else supplied the differentials to SAI. SAI stamped the differentials to distinguish the axle ratios when the Cobras were being built.
