Default Dan and Daves visit to Alloycars

Dan, Dave, & Ingo Poth of Alloycars

Dave Hackney & I finally met with Ingo Poth last week & took pictures of Ingo’s prototype of building his first aluminum cobra in America. Ingo found an undone FFR kit on craigslist, believing it was a MKIV as the owner who sold it for his son did not really know as his soldiering son was stationed far away from home. Once the car came into the shop Ingo figured out it wasn’t a MKIV, as the selling date was marked 2006 so for Ingo he considered it might possibly be a MKIII....unfortunately, after his weekend showing at a local car show he was told by an owner of a FFR MKII build, that the cobra he had built in aluminum was also a MKII. As with his other build of his Aluminum bodied Spyder he actually wanted to build a more original style looking body of the cobra. With his new American crew who are specialized in building aluminum bodies, but having never built a cobra before their efforts were not in vane as they all learned a lot building this MKII in aluminum. He showed me a front fender that was done in 2 pieces & then welded together & then he showed me another front fender that was made all in one piece so it did not need any welding. The FFR MKII owner just purchased a MKIV from FFR & is having it delivered to Ingo to have him make an aluminum body for his future cobra build. The MKII aluminum body will be scraped as it was just a building project for his crew. Ingo’s first attempt & saleable aluminum cobra will be on a MKIV & fitted to the FFR frame. Ingo has built more than 150 cobras while he lived in Brazil. I came here first to the Club Cobra web site to show what my trip to Ingo’s shop provided in pictures & knowledge. This is now Alloycars first attempt in America in building an aluminum body cobra. The body will have a sub frame attached & then that will be attached to the FFR cars frame. At this time they will be working on making their first aluminum cobra for sale as a MKIV, which means removing that perky butt, sad but true. Ingo is going to make it happen & told me he can attach this aluminum style body to any cobra frame using a sub frame for support, naturally the more work involved, will change the sale price. At this time he said the MKIV aluminum body would cost around 16K - 20K, depending on the work involved (contact Ingo for a direct quote on any pricing), on top of the kit price from FFR. A lot of things are happening at Alloycars & as I learn of them you will be the next to know.

The two pictures below were sent to me from Ingo Poth to show his crews final one piece fender panel rather than having four pieces welded together.

Rear of front fender sent to me from Ingo to show that it is all one piece

This is the same one piece fender polished to show off Alloycars finished product

After a 5 hour round trip in my car & about an hour ½ interview with Ingo Poth & Dave’s camera for actual pictures I’m here to try & set things straight about Alloycars. We all know that without pictures it never happened. I’m asking for your patience & no more war of words from anyone, Please. I first ran this past our beloved Ron (Jamo) & I also did not want my trip & efforts to be in vain.

In this picture you will see a line just before the door jam starts which shows a line that had been welded

This prototype FFR MKII will be scraped as it was never intended for sale

I sure love those Spyders! I think that an easy way to determine a MKIV FFR is the rollbar is 1.5" and not the earlier 2". Maybe someone more in the know can confirm that.
Thanks for posting those!

Great follow-up Dan, appreciate you taking the time to do this. How about your impressions of Ingo Poth and his crew? The pictures have clarified his operation, meeting the man (and maybe some of his workers) would give additional substance to the operation.

This is the way Ingo & his crew work I showed you a picture of a 2 piece fender but now with the polished fender, they are down to only one piece

Ted, This is the guy you needed to repair your Kirkham before you painted it red. If you would meet with Ingo & his crew you would think highly of him & his operation and craftsmanship.

Default great to see manufacturing returning to USA

Glad to learn that we have some exciting options coming out of florida. This could be just the beginning, and in the future we might see them making an aluminum body upgrade for many makes like Superformance, ERA, etc.

I would love to see an aluminum body that would fit on an ERA frame. Put me in line for one.

sea2Jet & Frank Ingo will build you an aluminum body cobra for any replica out there as he will mount his aluminum body to a sub frame & then that sub frame to your replica frame.

Ingo has built more than 150 cobras while he lived in Brazil.

Glad to see it's not all Vaporware, but I still gotta wonder, where are the pictures of those 150 cars and why didn't they use them instead of swiping pics of Kirkhams and FFRs?

I have seen pictures and video of the South American Cobras. As was stated earlier on, they were not very accurate and they do not want them confused with the new product.

EDIT - Thanks Dan, for the investigative work.
