Default How often do you grease...

How often do you grease the ball joints, drive-shaft u-joints, control arm pivots, etc? The ERA manual indicates every 12k miles, but I guess more often wouldn't hurt.

I tend to grease everything every time that I change the oil. Have been doing that for years with all of my vehicles.

Every 3000 miles or so. The tie rods and ball joints don't even require jacking the car up. And if you have the Moog units, they have little relief valves so you can't even overfill them. You know with your six u-joints you need to pump the grease in until you see all four of the seals clearly purge out. You can actually hear it squish out and it is impossible to over-grease them.

Default It depends on abuse

Kevin2 Kevin if you are hard on the car, every 1000 miles. This also depends on driving conditions like rain or track abuse. If normal driving every oil change or 3000miles which ever comes first. Also and very important, wheel bearings, repack and adjust for fronts and check hub bearing play on rears if running a Jag setup. The rest is a once a year maintainance check of the whole car with nuts and bolts being checked. There is about 12-15 grease fitting on the car with a jag setup. Unless you have a lift, pulling the tires will be needed to get a good shot at all the fittings. I use the red hitemp from Lucas for all my fittings and joints. Good luck. Rick L.

Thanks for the input. Although the ERA manual says to grease every 12,000 miles, it appears that I'm not the only one doing so more often than that.

Kevin

I do have Smith's gauges, but not the reverse speedo. I don't recall a zerk fitting on that...

The reverser has one on it -- it's a great way to win a bet from a Cobra owner (with a reverse Smiths speedometer in the dash). You know, "I bet you don't even know how many zerk fittings are on your car...."

Sounds like a lawyer trick.
