Thanks G-Pete. I see they make rubber letters spelling 'AVON' for people opposed of putting 'GOODYEAR' on an Avon tire. However, I would only have one per tire in lieu of two on the tire as shown on their website.

I wonder if the letters weigh enough(Avon)that the tires need to be balanced after gluing them on? G-Pete, your tires look awesome on your car.

Well, I have decided to go with the Avon tires and ordered a set through Roger Krause today. Should be here by the end of next week. It may be a few months as I have some winter/spring projects planned for the car but I will post my thoughts of the Avons.

All this talk of putting power down to the ground has got me thinking…
Will Avons help mitigate wheel hop? My roller came with the ubiquitous BFG Radial T/As. Pulling off the line too far above idle generally leads to wheel hop. It's annoying and probably not too good for the driveline.
Looking forward to getting some Avons or BBs mounted this summer. Staying with 15”.
To me, the essence of a Cobra is not accelerating off the line, but sweeping through a gentle bend, and feeling the chassis talk to you in subtle movements as you transition through the apex and squeeze out the power.
Personally, I think I screwed up my last sports car by modifying the crap out of it until it stuck to the ground like a cart. Completely took the personality out the car...and it raised the bar out of reach in a street environment.

You are on the right track!
The Avons will stick and keep the power to the ground. Just keep in mind that with those sticky tires, more torque is now on the car's hard parts and things like burnouts that were fun and easy with the BFG's will be harder on those parts.

Looks great Paul!
I have some new CR6ZZ's and want to do the same. May I ask where you got the stencil (or Avon artwork as I have a vinyl cutter) and what did you use to paint the lettering on please? When did you do it and how has it held up?
Thanks,
Simon

A note to let you know that my Avon tires arrived today!! I would highly recommend purchasing tires from Roger Krause. I called two other dealers of the Avon tires prior to calling Roger. Reason was they were closer and thought the shipping cost may be less. I left a detailed messages with the other guys yet have not received a response to date. Roger answer the phone promptly and had the tires ready for shipment that day. I was not expecting the tires to arrive until later in the week but arrived today!! I'm happy!!

I ended up going with the 335 30 18 in the rear and a 275 35 18 in front. Michelin PS2. I like the look I believe the performance will at least be the same and they should last longer.

Hi Simon,
I had a fiend make up some sticky back stencils for me. I don't recall the font I used, but it wasn't anything special. I gave the tyres. Really good clean before applying the stencil and paint. The paint is from a rattle can of white primer and so far it has held up well, although the bright white soon gets a beige tint, which looks better in my view.

I just received my Avon's and compared them with my Cooper Cobra [ MT Sportsman S/T]
Durometer: Avons 60-65
Cooper Cobra 75-80
I was surprised by the reading of the Cooper Cobra tires, Not too bad and the reason they are probably the best bang for the buck in 15". I paid $600.00 cash two years ago.
Now along with the difference in Durometer readings, the big difference is the rubber to road contact patch. It was visibly obvious that the cooper cobra with their 3/8" grooves going radially AND laterally ( if that makes sense to the engineers) compared to the 1/8 grooves on the Avons only radially, None laterally, could be more than 50% !!! I thought that was significant.
I have yet to try them out on the road as I'm doing the Tremec trans mods and a new ring and pinion.
I'll let you know.
Oh the price--..... I'll just skip that part, I've been in the Racing / Hot Rod world too long to care. As for the wife ...the policy is "Don't ask Don't tell"

Great review of your observations. Will be curious what you think about the differences. I believe the M/T's are also made by Cooper.
As far as the price and the wifey? I try to time my deliveries when she's not home. It just saves on the conversation part!
