15" Avon CR6ZZ compared to 17" performance tires

How many guys have we seen that have spent well over $2k on shiny stuff, then put on a set of BFG's? Start from the pavement and work up!

For what it's worth - look wise if you are going bigger that 15" I would go 17" front and 18" rear.

Tough choice but I'm leaning towards the Avon's this go round. Good traction and I would think a better ride for cruising.

I've seen MT S/R tires coping exceptionally well on a 600hp Cobra, so if you're saying you can "feel" the value of the Avons on public roads, you must be driving at 10/10ths.
I can understand the desire for some people to run billboards for the look, but as the Avons don't have that period style appearance, it then just comes down to the grip and performance they offer. I'm intrigued whether you could really feel any difference between them and MT S/Rs in perhaps anything other than dumping the clutch from a standing start.

Sure, paint GOOD YEAR on a tire and you'll fool most people, but the sidewall overall shape, the sidewall profile, the relation of the sidewall to where it meets the tire tread, the tread shape, width and pattern...it's all different.

The Avon shape is great, and I'm not saying it's sub standard in any way. In fact there are a million reasons why Avon make a better tire than the billboard. It just doesn't seem as though you would be able to duplicate the sidewall shape of a bias ply tire with a radial tire. There are probably a million reasons why a manufacturer wouldn't want to anyway.

I guess I had not isolated the shape of Goodyear billboards from other 15" tires.
Now it is obvious, bill boards do look awesome and the shape, the bulge, and the letters really complete the look of the car. The radials don't have that shape.

I am pretty sure I am going with 18's and a 335 rear. I like that look although some do not.

I intend to go 18's myself, I see it as part of a suspension upgrade along with better brakes. What about rims? Dare to be different again? Some very nice monoblock options out there.
