Hey rodneym, fan question for you..
Hi Rodney,
A while back, you suggested upgrading my Kirkham's fan to Spal's high output unit....I did buy one and am installing it. My question to you involves the relay. I believe you said you installed a 70A relay. The current fan relay in the kirkham fuse panel is 30A. I believe a direct 40A plug in replacement is available. I think the Spal H.O. fan is a max 40A pull. In fact, the Spal relay and fuse kit that they sell for the fan is 40A.
Why did you feel it was necessary to go with a 70A relay?
Thanks

Hey Rodney, I have a fan question too.
Do you have a Twitter handle and/or how can I "follow" you? I'm a VERY big fan!

Phil,
In working on my cooling (which most recently involved a smaller WP pulley), I wasn't exactly sure where I was gonna go. Twin pullers? Spal 16" pusher in front of my puller? etc. I installed the 70a relay so there was no question. If I knew then that what I have now is a keeper, then I'd drop in the 40a like you mentioned and be done with it.
Even though it's better, I'm not driving in mid day traffic in the Summer. I was going to try a 16" pusher with the stock puller but some said it creates issues in flow and could even make cooling worse. I'm leaving it as is but if that non sealed motor fails in the 30102113, then I may try the pusher/puller combo.

TEXAS winning Electric Radiator Fan formula...
(SPAL High Performance 16” with sealed motor)
Aluminum core, 2 rows of 1 1/4" tube.
Core is approximately 350 sq in.
Spal Radiator Fan Parts:
1. 30102120 - 16" puller fan, straight blade, quantity 1 (flat sides 15.63", 16.22" OD)
2. 30130074 - 16" fan gasket, quantity 1
3. 30130017 - Plastic fan bracket, quantity 4.
4. FR-PT - Jumper Harness (or AMP connector Code 180908)
5. 30 Amp Relay / Fuse
Spal makes a "pusher" fan, but the straight blades work either way.
I purchase the Puller and just reverse the incoming connector pins for front mount.
ONLY runs:
1. while idling AFTER a high speed run (stop sign after interstate off ramp)
2. extended idling (more than 2 minutes)
3. 15 mph bumper-to-bumper traffic.
