Default Door Hinge Covers are junk!

I finally got some time to permanently mount the fiberglass door hinge covers on my CSX. Figured I'd press them on, drill a couple holes in each one for some screws, and be done. What a couple of pieces of junk! The fiberglass has visible flaws/indentations in the surface. They are warped so bad along the sides that they start to split when I press them onto the hinge. And the black finish is flaking off, revealing white underneath.

I have done the search thing here to see if others have had the same experience. The threads are several years old.

Does anyone sell a quality hinge cover, or do I just have to make some myself? I sure wasted my $$ on these.

I do, I can supply all the fiberglass components used on, 289 street and competition, 427 street and competition as well as both versions of the 1965 GT350 Mustangs.

I've learnt with this type of hobby....that the only way to get it how you like is to do it yourself.

Please give me a call 1-760-428-2177, I have a couple of options along with the original style covers that we do. See attached photo...this is a pad that was used on original 289 FIA Cobras and allowed the drivers to rest their legs on in between shifts.

I went through this.
The ones I got from Cobra Restorers had shrinkage (Rodknock, insert Seinfeld clip here). They wouldn't fit over the hinge without cracking.
Then I bought a pair from Acton, much better.
I'd like to see a pic of CompClassic's (hint, hint).

The hinges are cheesy. I used Silicone adhesive and they have stayed put for me.

You can call Billy Andrews at HRE. He can also send you some new hinges and advice on how to get them to stay put.

I believe "REAL 1" is talking about someone else's hinge covers, not mine. I will photograph one and post it ASAP. The photo that I had previously posted above is a modified version of the fiberglass ones that I sell.

I have sent you messages regarding a question you had previously asked me and have received no response?

Whatever hinge covers that Stewart Hall at Hall Fabrication installed in my car back in 2008 seems to have worked all these years for me.

I bought two sets of hinge covers to try on my car.

The first from Acton were very good quality/well made/nice grain texture, but unfortunately did not fit my hinges:

See next post.

Got bounced out before I could finish the post.

Here's the second pic of the Acton hinge cover:

Then I bought a pair from Peter at ERA. Also very well made, fit my hinges better but not the way I wanted. So I cut the ERA covers about 1" up from and parallel to the square base and "rotated" the curved part down to the base to make a "perfect" fit. Fiberglass bonded it back together on the back. Stretched and glued the vinyl cover over it and:

Cheers
Greg

It's less about "rest between shifts", it's more about less rubbing during the hard driving. Flinging, shifting weight/legs gets really hard on your knees after a while.
Any distraction (like that little things) cost you time and concentration.

BTW, nice try of a sales pitch --- just refine it
