with the 3" filter and it fit PERFECTLY, with at least 1/2" room to spare between the top of air cleaner and hood (remember 427 Street with NO SCOOP.) This is on a Holley 850 HP. I know this is expensive, but unlike the K&N drop bases, it works.

Ah yes, your right Bill, but needing a minimum clearance above the bowl vents, nearly negates the use of such a low height element. Far better off getting a low drop base that flows well, as he already has done.

It is a "constant" in the engine airflow formula:

cubic inches to cubic feet= 12 x 12 x 12 =1728

x 2 (induction stroke every second revolution) = 3456

Assuming 100% VE.

You might try staying with the 9" AF and use this 9" drop base and an Extreme top. I make the base plates and Mickmate sells the complete kit. There are several members here that are using them on some big engines. I run it on my 482 FE with a 2" AF and no problems.
