CR 427 with hood clearance issue
Just purchased a Classic Roadsters 427 (mfg in 91. Need to figure out how to lower the motor and/or modify the hood to clear the EFI. Currently it hits the hood. I know the hood has an inner liner I can modify/remove. But I figure this is not the 1st time someone has seen this out there.
Plus I have a Kenne Bell Supercharger I would like to add and not make the car look like a Cobra with the start of a case of Mumps!
Any suggestions (not counting getting a different kit- if you look @ my profile you will see why I selected the CR instead of the newer kits)?

I think you should look at your motor mounts. I had to fab two sets befor I finally got my engine low enough to clear the hood. I don't know what pan you're using, but you can probably safely lower it to 4" off the ground. You'll just have to play with it a bit, but one way or another you can make it work.

Thx! Will look closer when I bring it home nxt weekend. I will use a "stock" chrome 5.0 pan. It was tough to look closely in its current location. Noticed there were a stack of washers on the trans cross member to lower it. That would just make the motor angle worse! Have to pull the engine/trans out anyway to put in my T5Z and the TFS Twisted Wedge alum heads & Kenne Bell SC. Figured I can always look @ using the old Tran-Dapt Hot Rod hoop mount we used in the old days w/a SBF. Just have to turn it around to match the cutout on the 5.0 pan. Or I can use the later "Biscuit" mounts that are popular now.

If lowering it is going to create clearance issues with the oil pan you can always go to an Aviad or Armando's Racing ( Road race oil pan) pan (#406 pan, Ford 289, 302, Cobra Replica: front sump 15" L x 7.5" D x 11.5" W) with kick-outs.
I had Armando Rodriguez build a custom pan to accommodate the angle the BBF is mounted at. It has a 3/4 length sump and the bottom of the pan sits 1/4" above and parallel to the bottom of the frame rails. It also has drain plugs front right and left rear, a bung for an oil temperature gauge, and double the oil capacity of the old pan.
Extra oil capacity would be a good thing if you're planning on running a supercharger, and an oil temperature gauge to monitor things is a good idea too (if you don't already have one).

I have seen a couple of CRs with the hood scoops made bigger and they blended into the hood very nicely. One took up most of the hood, but it was very well done and looked as if it belonged on there. He had a high rise intake and the carbs would hit without an air cleaner. Also will your Supercharger set any higher than the EFI unit? The inner liner of the hood gives it strength and if you remove it and have the car out in the sun, such as at a car show, the hood can actually warp from the heat of the sun beating down on it. I saw this happen on two Cobras. One was a CR the the owner removed the liner to get clearance and it warped so badly that he had to have a ne whood made. The other one they were able to use heat and get it back into good shape.

After lowering my 460 as much as I could and still have acceptable ground clearance still did not have enough for an air cleaner that would let the big engine breath at sustained high rpm so bought another hood and added a cut down Harwood scoop. Personally love the look, side benefit is it helps keep the engine cool.

I widened my hood scoop by 3 inches for the EFI intake to fit on my Hunter.

You might take a look at Emerson Motorsports in Redding Ca. His hoods fit a CR and are higher and a bit wider.

Thx! Now I know I'm in the rt spot for advice! I like the scoop on the "Hunter"! The Kenne Bell is only about an inch taller than the EFI. I will look closely at the motor mounts. I have an idea that they may have been reversed to make it easier to install. I have seen that before. And the motor mounts will not last mounted that way.
I will need to extend the scoop forward to possibly clear the front snout on the supercharger- it is long but lower than the Dist. Next is what to do with the wheels. They are what CR was shipping at the time and I am not a fan. Have been looking at the Halibrand in 15" pin drive but hesitate at the cost. The tires on it would fir perfect but I am concerned about the amount the rr wheels will stick out. Would like to go to the 17" for bigger brakes. I have a 8.8 posi w/5 lug disc in my garage rt now and the current rr has drums. Would like to put some real braking power into it! Mustang Steve has a kit that I am installing on my 67 Mustang rt now using disc/calipers frt & rr from a 2010 Mustang GT. Talk about filling out the wheel inner space! The 4 wheel drums were scary. Suggestions?
