It was 20 years ago when I drove with a cut down winshield. The most important part for me was, that I curved it around to meet halfway in the door cutouts. That deflected the wind much better than the original windshield. Height was about half of the glass version.
I made the base myself and used a 3mm polycarbonate or perspex "glass". I screwed the base to the car body with about 10 screws. I used as many for the glass to aluminium base.
I also drove with the single seater windshield. The kicker here is, by reducing the frontal area you gain quite some "free" horsepower at higher speeds.
I will do it again for the new car I am building. Using the half high shield. It's also cheaper...
