Anyway, I had bought a cheap (based on capacity and bandwidth) subscription, I think it was $20/year starting in 14 when I posted a boatload of photos for the Ford GT Forum rally and exceeded my bnadwidth. They kept it active until the renewal and then said it would be cut off if I didn't renew at the exorbitant rate which I did not do . But links still seem to work. But maybe it's just the way I'm "logged in". So the question is, can you see the pic?

If you are talking about the pic in post #94- yes, I can see it.
And I like it!

Found some pictures of CSX2196 at Sebring in 1964. Here Ken Miles is leading AJ Foyt's Corvette...
....and here's Miles still leading the Corvette...
....and here's Miles again, sideways, Sebring '64.
Oops, no, it's a GTO wearing the same three air vents as Mile's Cobra
Cheers,
Glen

As an architect, I'll guess that is not a collapsed roof but some sort of a display, perhaps a simulation of a portion of banking?

Great pictures! I noticed some of the pics seem to show there is not much room for the driver's left arm in the cockpit. I thought I was the only one. I'm fairly wide at the shoulders and torso and have my seat tight against the consol. One pic noted a "cut downdoor" by an aussie, was that to give more room for a left arm?

Some pictures of the first GT40 cars:
Here’s GT40 GT/101, the prototype, in early 1964:
…being loaded onto a BOAC plane, to be sent from London to New York for a press showing at Essex House Hotel (NY)
It was flown back to England and tested at MIRA and Silverstone, and then over to Le Mans for the LM test weekend where it was driven by Jo Schlesser....
....for eight laps (8 laps!!), reaching "takeoff speed" and resulting in this:
According to the Registry, “the car had a total of 465 test miles on it and it was not repaired because it was likely faster to build a new car”.
Cheers,
Glen

Quiet day....looking at old pictures....
Here's another one of, I think, GT/104 with early nose (see also post #96 above) with Miles and Shelby chewing the fat

Not a vintage picture, but the subject is definitely vintage! Location is Monterey (I think).
Nice rig! Even though it is a Fiat

This is Sebring, 1963.
Roger Penske (250GTO, #24) is ahead of David Piper's GTO, and Dave MacDonald/Fireball Roberts trail in CSX2026
(A bit of useless but vaguely interesting information ....Penske's GTO is blue, and Piper's GTO is - (as always with his cars) green.
Penske's 250GTO finished 4th
Piper/Cantrell's 250GTO finished 14th
The MacDonald/Roberts' Cobra blew a diff and DNF'd, but Ken Miles/Phil Hill/Lew Spencer's Cobra finished 11th outright and 1st in the GT, 4 litre+ class
Cheers,
Glen

Speaking of Miles, here is his car, CSX2002, being driven to the track before the race

Great pic thanks!
I guess the car in the foreground is a Daytona coupe. I noticed the twin mtd rear batteries. Might be a problem if hit in the rear...?

Now that's a fair question.
I thought it was either a 289FIA or a 289USRRC because of the dash layout, but on closer look (the fuel filler and the scuttle/cowl shape, it's CSX2196, Ken Miles 427 'prototype'
Cheers!
Glen

Oh I see now. In the photo from my question I noticed the edge of the cowl did not curve like my car and just assumed it might be a coupe. I see the 427 prototype appears to have been widened so no flares are necessary on the rear wheels. I don't think I have seen that car before.

Well, you had me scratching my head. It took me around an hour of searching pictures to settle on Miles' 427 prototype, CSX2196. I assume that picture was in the quite early stages of that car's life.

Glen

Great thread Glen. Love all those old pics.
Here's an oldie that begs the question: Who are these people?
And this is one of my favorites that also comes with a question:
My question is. This iconic photo taken at Malibu with Pt. Hueneme Rock in the background, had a companion photo taken from a slightly different angle and without a model in it. I recently stumbled across it on the internet but now can't find it again.
Can anyone direct me to that image?
Cheers
Greg

Flip Top Pics
A few pics I have gathered over the years of Flip Top, These have all been posted on this sitebefore, but some obviously are from many years ago. if Ive broken a rule let me know & I'll remove. Some refuse to load, way beyond my skills to work out why.
