Default electric fans not working

Sorry that I have to (again) show my ignorance, regarding my own car, but I was hoping somebody could point me in the right direction. When taking my car out recently, I headed into our downtown area, with slow traffic. My temperature gauge started climbing into uncomfortable territory, and I checked to be sure my front-mounted electric fans were spinning, and they were not. Once the car was out of traffic and started getting some air through the radiator, the temps dropped, but until I figure out my fan problem, I am limited to driving only at speeds above 10 mph.

My car is a CSX4000 series (#4145). I would imagine that the front twin fans are all wired pretty much the same on these. Are they on a temperature switch? I couldn't find one, but wasn't sure where all to check. I found a wire coming from the harness on the passenger-side fan wiring, which was grounded to the frame and was loose, but fixing that didn't solve anything. I don't see any blown fuses.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I would NOT drive it at all until it's fixed! An all aluminum FE does not like excessive coolant temps. Just because it doesn't lift the radiator cap doesn't mean you're operating it in a safe zone.

The fans have to have both positive and negative. Find the positive and check with a multimeter or a 12v test light at the fan. If voltage there - the fan is bad . Trace the positive back to either a fuse or a temp switch. Check for voltage there. If a temp switch - it should be adjustable, see if adjusting turns on the fan.

Be careful as the fans can instantly turn on and they
Can be dangerous,

Thank you all for your comments.

As far as not operating the car until this is fixed- no need to worry. I have no reason to doubt the accuracy of my temperature gauges. I will be certain to keep it in the "safe zone". As far as checking the power at the fan- I will do that, but keep in mind that BOTH of these fans are not kicking on, so I doubt that BOTH fan motors died at the same time.

As far as tracing the wiring- that is where the problem is. The wiring is all covered, and runs together with wires for other accessories, so I was hoping that somebody here familiar with CSXs would be able to chime in and just point me in the right direction as far as where the temp switch is, or if they have encountered this problem before. OR, if anybody here has a wiring diagram from a CSX...

Ok, so with the help of Blas, we determined the problem was a bad relay. I would like to stick with an original-style LUCAS relay. Is there a vendor on here that carries these? I found a couple of options on Ebay, but I wasn't confident in the authenticity or condition of the product.

I find them if I search online from parts suppliers. Some are overseas.

OK, Blas- thanks. I just figured they were a common-enough item for the people on this forum, that one of the businesses that sponsor the forum would have them. Apparently not.

He'll help you. He sent me pieces and parts for free for my Cobra. I think he charged me about $10 for my broken Lucas fuel pump switch (same as fans etc).

Of course you know that anything Lucas will need replacement sooner rather than later. It's the nature of the beast. But hey, it's part of the experience!
