Bought a complete kit, did I get ripped off?
Well being a act first, think later man has served me well at times in my life. This time the jury is still out.... I found a car on Craigslist and went directly to the safe, then to his house. Drove home with a 66' replica. It came with no paperwork other than a wiring diagram from a typewriter, seriously So now the mystery is: did I loose my mind, and what kind of kit is this thing, as I now understand that has a lot to do with it.
Its got a 460, C6 tranny, Vette IRS & disc. It looks like OEM chevy type a arms, with a modified factory steering set up to fit the kit.
97.5' x 58 wheel base.

Specs you were told?
How much did you pay for it?
Ford tag is a reproduction and punched with a chassis number that does nothing but look cool

looks good to me, for that price if you like it and it drives good sounds like a great deal, as long as it does not need a ton of cash put into it you did fine in my opinion...

It runs well, drives well, small shake in wheel when I'm going above 50, shifts fine, and after a 3 hour drive in 80 degree weather at 4,000 rpm it didn't over heat. Seems pretty mechanically okay. The door has a spot on both sides (where the a pillar would connect) where it rubs the door jam a bit. There are a few small surface (maybe gel coat) fractures in the body, but it's not major, and are not growing.
Everyone asks me the kit type or builder. I can't seem to find any indicators of a chassis brand or markings. Is there a place where it's typical to find something like that on the frame?

even the best replicas have spots where the door might rub or a squeak or a rattle, I don't know the make but I guarantee on this site their will be about 50 that will, just wait a few...

Prior to this I had a few year old Porsche Cayman S, and a 1993 Mustang Cobra, both cool cars. This one is the most fun by far. It is fast, sexy, and starts conversations with every person in a 100' range. It's so fun. Thanks for the feedback man.
I guess the $19k I paid is fair maket value for it?

For some reason it seems like it's a little longer than some, or maybe it's just my eyes.

it does if its 97 inches, cobras have 90 backdraft cobras 92 you are closer to a JBL wheelbase but it is not a JBL kit, the longer wheelbase helps with driving just looks a little different and less original but who cares...burn rubber and smile...

Hunters ( http://hunterscobrakits.homestead.com) says they make a 96" kit, maybe I miss measured. Are there many makers out there who make a 96-97" car?

From what I can see in the pics, it looks to be a older production frame from a Chevy, old corvette maybe. You said the front suspension was chevy, and the rear definately is. Whats the wheelbase on the C2,C3 vetts ??

Looks like a West Coast Cobra. Stretched wheelbase, widened body, bulging arches and a lowered grille opening. Underhood area looks like it as well and 429/460 series engines with C6 trans was the recommended combo. The interior is not as padded up as most West Coast cars tend to be, the the coaming around the rear cowl is typical, so it may be an earlier version or even a Stallion, which I believe was the predecessor the West Coast product.
There are a number of WC owners her who could help you with more detailed information - look at the forums list on this site and there may be an active owners discussion forum - I'm not sure. Failing that, do a search on "West Coast Cobra" and that may net you some results.
EDIT - On second look the rear flares don't look wide enough and West Coast Cobras exclusively featured solid 9" Ford rear ends, so unless it's a one off custom 'Vette IRS installation based on a Stallion or a West Coast car, It may be a Hunter or one of the Corvette based Cobra replicas although it has a far more Cobra-like basic shape than any of those that I have seen.

Motörhead it's got some vette production parts, but outside of some bolt one at the suspension area, it's def a square tube frame.

After scrolling this entire list of kit makers ( Cobra Kits) not a single one seems to have the Lowe rear fenders and a rear deck fuel fill placement. I neve realiEd that there is an endless list of makers.

I don't know the make but the Classic Roadsters used to have a 94" wheel base and their doors were different. If everything is mechanically good and you like it, I think you got a good deal. The car looks good and they are high maintenance cars so you will have some things to check over. Check all the bolts and everything before you start pushing it to hard. The rattles and squeaks are a part of many of these cars.

Nope not a WCC, I have a Kellison/WCC and the engine bay is the tell tale, this is not a WCC. Also the 9" Ford Rear end is not present, WCC used them.

I think you got a good deal. I LOVE the color.
Although it does have some resemblance to a Hunter, it is not a Hunter (I built a Hunter, so I'm pretty familiar with the Hunter chassis). I don't know of any other kit company that used the Corvette transverse leaf spring. Definitely a unique car.
