No more brake squeek!!!!
I had been plagued with a squeaky brake from the day I bought my car. Sounded like the left side, but couldn't tell which one. Squeeked terribly except when I put the brakes on then it died down. I actually think you could hear it over the exhaust, which of course needs the volume turned up a bit now and then. Asked lots of people and got lots of solutions, of which I tried a few, to no avail. Finally figured out it was the rear because it went away when I put the hand brake on when driving. Checked out the rotor runout, grooved the pads, greased the pads where they touched, put the red goopy stuff on the pads and all over me, which stopped the squeak for a while, and no I didn't get it in my ear. Finally over the weekend I smelled brake overheat. Checked the temp of the wheels and the left rear was a bit warm. Headed straight home and up on the jackstands. The car not me. What a DUH moment, in all of the maintenance and debugging that I had done after I got the car, I neglected to pull the calipers out of their holders and clean and grease the sliding surfaces. Moving now, squeak gone. Just thought this might help others who could overlook this just like I did.
