The SAAC gurus asked Ned what he wanted, and he said "I wanna watch".........................so they let him!

Nice clean thread where everyone is having some fun and showing some respect at the same time without the bashing!

But now it's time to get serious. Clearly, in the absence of a volunteer to be a fresh whipping boy, and/or a ceremonial watch, it appears the Cobra registry will have to continue on a strictly "Ned to know" basis. It's a shame it has come to this.

Where is the discussion on this in the SAAC forum? I don't know if this is really serious or not, or if Ned is being "nudged" to think about something he wasn't really ready to think about yet. But isn't SAAC the proper place to do that business?
A Job Description (that contains info like amount of time that the job currently takes, and the amount of time the new and current registrars will overlap and the amount of face time expected during that overlap) would be helpful.

Just my two cents worth, but a discussion of this nature (in regards to any and all Registrar replacements or successors) should not take place publicly. Those at SAAC know who has the passion, it's a question of who can be trusted to take these important documents into the future. That is something only the executive committee (for lack of a better label) can answer.

Yup. They (SAAC) including Ned are the Gatekeepers for us all and we will need to trust their judgement.

I agree. My original post was along the lines of "Isn't this a discussion for Ned and his bosses?" But Ned asked...

Does Ned have a son or daughter that he could pass the torch too? But I'm sure some would moan and complain and call that Ned-potism.

Ned's son is in NJ politics (by the way, congratulations to you Ned), that alone precludes him from having a responsible position in SAAC

I've been trying the think of any person who cannot be replaced. Ned seems to be unique. You can plug in a new politician/lawyer (ahem)/ pop star/lawyer/sports star/lawyer/hairdresser. But you can't replace a Cobra Registrar! We appear to have an 'Irreplaceable Ned' on our hands! There Can Be Only One....

Some will get it, some won't...
Oscar Goldman: Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to make the world's first bionic man. Steve Austin will be that man. Better than he was before. Better... stronger... faster.

Some will, but fewer will recall the original run.

I think that if and when the discussion turns serious, rather than an excuse to exercise our puns, it will occur within the proper framework and venue. Until then, there's no ned to stop.

Bill, I'd say he is more an economist than a politician, but thanks!

Cobra Make, Engine: Enjoyed CSX 2306 as a daily driver and weekend toy. Hooked my brother Jim on Cobras. Sold it to Ned in the spring of 1972.

Neither Ned nor I knew that he would become the Cobra Registrar for SAAC when we did the deal on CSX2306 in the spring of 1972. We were both just kids who had worshiped the cars that whupped Ferrari in the mid 1960's, and we"d gotten a taste of what these cars were like as much by happenstance as anything else. Several of the previous owners of CSX2306 tried to buy it from me at well below market value before Ned showed up with what was a cashier's check for the fair price for a straight car at the time. I am quite happy that he enjoyed the car as much as I did, and that he turned his fascination with it into what has become a labor of love -- shrinks like me might (and have to his face) called it an obsession -- that really blesses all of us who enjoy this marque. He should remain the registrar into his dotage unless crooks and pretenders drive him to distraction with lawsuits filed by slimey scheisters. The work he has put onto the registry is absolutely remarkable, particularly when one considers that he is a very active businessman and loving husband / father. He is a wonderful friend with an exquisite sense of humor, and as honest as human beings get. A few years back he let me drive CSX2306 on one of the Cotter/Maxwell road tours. It was a thrilling trip back in time. If Cobraphiles Google CSX2306 they will find photos of the car over the years. It is now black with a red interior and resides in Montana. The Cobra emblem on the rear deck is still mounted off-center enter as it was when I was its custodian!

Thanks for the memories, Dr. Ed, as well as your comments! Hard to imagine it was over 43 years ago we struck a deal on 2306. But to suggest I ever required the services of a shrink? It's a happy and harmless obsession; that's my story and I have struck with it for many years now. As for the old Cobra, it has recently been returned to Princess Blue. (Photo attached).
