Default shelby GR-1 replica

hello all

well the fun starts

we have the digital images

in the next 3 weeks the Shelby gr1 body will be cut out on a cnc router table
in esp1 foam then the fun task of making a mold and then a body

it will be mated to a modified Daytona chassis with a race car style interior and a 4.6l mustang engine and trans.

the measurements are not that far off
the Daytona chassis I have is 95 inch (gr-1 is 100)
the Daytona lenth is 173.7 inches (gr-1 is 173)
the Daytona is slightly wider but that wont be a problem

a few things need to be figured out like the doors ...not sure how we are going to do the hinge..was thinking maybe gull wing doors? thought?

this will be a one off build and I don't plan to build any other bodies due to copy right laws.
Tenrocca and Bernica like this.

One my favorite cars ever. I still can't believe the car sold at auction a few years ago for only $75k.

I'm surprised it sold for that much. It was just a shell (no power train).

Are you going to do alloy or fiberglass?

Anyone know where the alloy body GR-1 that was complete ended up? Guessing Ford or Shelby retained this one in the collection, it was a running driving car. Name: ford_Shelby_GR-1_DV_06_Pitt_03.jpg

That one would have gone places!
I don't know the history very well, but seems to me that it was the next step for them.

Ford isissing the boat on this one in my opinion.
If they could produce this car at ZR1 prices it would've been very cool to have.

Great!

I am doing a similar project here in SA. Just another car. I got a buck / ribcage cnc cut by a door frame manufacturer. I bought the 3D file for $100 from CGTrader com.

Please post more pics!

Should this post maybe placed under Scratch Builders?

Thumbs up

One can definitely see the Mangusta DNA all over the body lines. Beautiful car. I'm really looking forward to seeing this come together.

hello

the car will be build out of fibreglass with a 4 inch round tube chassis and race car style roll cage
the engine will be 4.6l and auto trans.
this will be a slow build so pics will be as soon as the foam is cut and ready for body work

The late model tuner and drifter crowd has a number of aftermarket suppliers selling "Lambo-style" scissor door hinge kits for all the popular brands and models, so it should be possible to adapt one of the kits for this project.
Example: True bolt on Lambo Doors. The finest hinges you can install. | Scissor Doors Inc.
