Now that is interesting...
Not in the market for that but let's see what the market bares!

I'll be watching it too. Don't like the Holley 8V setup. It's not in keeping with originality but whatever. Will be interesting to see if it sells.

Only 6 pictures?

Agree on the carb set-up; not too good.

8v on a 289? Like flushing a toilet into a 5-gallon bucket, IMHO.

I like 8V setups, I just would like to see it done accurately with the Carter carbs. I know why it doesn't have one though as I'm right in the middle of putting one together right now. To make it right (accurate to original), it would have been cheaper to use Webers!

Since the approved standard low flow toilet now uses 1.28 gallons per flush, the 5 gallon bucket would be good for at least 3 flushes.

And I especially love the picture showing the car cover. I suppose it's better than a pic showing the driver's side of the car. Oy.

And what makes it even more rare is that it's a CS-signature delete edition too.

Here you go. I guess they were available back in the day. This is from an old catalog from CS. Your prices may vary.

Those are post-Cobra. As far I know, the dual four barrel offered as an option from SA for Cobra was the Carter setup. It was also offered through Ford with slight changes/evolution than what was used on the Cobra and past the production period of the Cobra.

The 2-4V Carter carburetors from a Chrysler application on a COBRA lettered intake was a popular regular production option for HP289 powered Cobras. The parts comprising the Cobra production system and what Ford sold retail through its dealers for years were different past the intake, carburetors, and air filters.

Larry is correct. The “high rise” 2-4V system using Ford specific Holley carburetors wasn’t around during Cobra production. The first high rise intake with Holleys was developed for the 1966 Shelby Group II Mustangs for the SCCA Trans-Am series. A different intake was developed for the 1967 season (probably to take advantage of the racing only C6FE cylinder heads designed for GT40s) and started off using the same models Ford/Holley carburetors introduced as a running change for the 1963 Ford 427 8V option (and 1966 Cobras <a.k.a. 427 Cobras> and the 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustangs and the early 1967 racing Bud Moore Cougars). As the 1967 race season got more aggressive the vacuum secondary carburetors eventually were replaced on Ford backed cars with fully mechanical specials built custom by Holley under Ford prototype part numbers.

The 1966 high rise system style been reproduced.

A company called Autosports marketed SHELBY lettered parts and accessories circa late 1967 through about early 1971.

Although the bids are coming in pretty fast, I somehow doubt it will hit the $189k asking price he has posted in the classified section of this site.

My guess is top out at about $120k...maybe?

It's currently up to $100,000. Looking good so far!

I have never figured out why they can't get the interior right: things wrong are glove box knob location, clock, silly looking covers over door hinges, length of gearshift,...
I too don't like the glitzy dual quad setup, but at least that's an easy fix.

Default one of fifty produced

This is only one of fifty cars built celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first Cobras. Like the originals no two are built alike. These cars will stand on their own merits as new 50th Anniversary Shelby Cobra cars. I think Shelby American got it right.

Topped at $101k. Guess it wasn't worth the 189k he was asking for on this site after all.

eBay is mostly for advertising, as you're probably aware, but I'm sure the time of year and the turbulence of the markets didn't help the cause.

OTOH, the $189,000 "ask" for a fiberglass-bodied CSX with red interior and a 289 probably entered the "irrational exuberance" territory.

I didn't mean to convey that there's anything wrong with being confident and/or asking whatever price you want for your widget. It's all good.

Being a member of other websites of other marques, Mr. Becker's asking price for the black/red 289 CSX seems plausible in comparison to other seller offerings in the current market.
