What fun is a car with "no stories?"
I'd pay extra for that!

I keep going back to if Evan's car does sell someday what the new owner will have to deal with. It will always be "Evan's car" in cobra circles - he promoted it everywhere, no getting around it. That's unwanted baggage, never the new owner's new cobra, just Evan's old CSX4206.

If the new owner ever showed up here, I'm sure we would welcome him as a brother. I also know that as soon as CSX4206 is mentioned the peanut gallery will chime in "oh, you own Evan's cobra" lol.

Kinda disagree.. Just sold a 66 GT350 convert about 6 months ago.. Had the car since 1974.. Lots of guys knew about it (Shelby guys) but it hadn't been seen since 1975. Became a barn car !! Well sort of. Now I am a has been and everyone knows the new owner.

Better to be a has been rather than a never been.

Love the car, not so much the owner.
I'm sure we would welcome the new owner properly.
Unless he turned out to be another (@&$#*¥£€)!

Say what you want, but as far as I am concerned, CSX 4206 set the bar on the 4000 series cars. Vernon's car is awesome and so are the others, so not taking anything from them.
Somebody just prove me wrong.

Description says "rare aluminum body." Not rare for a Kirkham.

Your situation and Evan's are worlds apart -
Yours was an original, Evan's was not
You didn't need to justify authenticity, Evan spent a decade telling us why his was a "genuine real one"
Yours was out of the lime light for something like 40 years
Evan put his in the lime light every chance he got
Don't know you, never heard of ya but I'm sure you're not like Evan and a nice guy
Evan, ask around, a blowhard thread opened up in his honor

That looks like a nice Kirkham, but do you really think they will get that much money without the CSX#?

OK I'll admit it. I want to grow up and be like Evan.

I remember looking at buying a house in a development. And the developer couldn't sell any of the houses. Their market was nonexistent. So, I went back a few weeks later only to discover that the developer had raised prices. I asked the salesperson why they raised prices when they couldn't sell any homes prior to the sales price increase. The salesperson responded by saying that the developer felt that if they couldn't sell them for the lower price why not sell them for more and still not sell them.

It looks like Evan has adopted this pricing strategy. Instead of asking $229,000, Evan INCREASED the asking price to $249,000. Of course, there's still a hint of the lower price near the bottom of the ad, where he has listed both prices.

Is Evan sticking his tongue out at me/us? Right back at ya.

I have seen that many times with developers. They fire the marketing group, add some bling and put a new marketing team on them. Sometimes it actually works, sometimes not. Just like these cars, it all depends on who is looking and how you have it packaged...

There are products that sell primarily because of their exclusivity, and they are exclusive primarily because of their high price. That lets the buyer flaunt his/her wealth. That works with a brand or marque that is widely known in the buyer's circle for its price. I'm not sure it would work for one person who owns one specific example to try and claim his specific item is far more valuable that all the other similar items. After all, how can you flaunt the value of your car if it looks essentially like many other less expensive cars. I guess you'd have to take every opportunity to explain to every passing stranger why your car was so special. I'm sure we've all met that guy and don't treasure the memory.

Wow - 229 posts on this thread. Evan probably drops in to read this and feels like he's died and gone to heaven, but gets to look down on us mere mortals and watch our reaction.

I suspect its more like Ebeneezer Scrooge finding out how people really felt about him. .... If he does read any of this, perhaps he'll spend more time thinking about what other people have said and less time cherry picking their comments for the few words that support his misguided position. .... But I doubt it.

So, a short while after Evan "left" someone said we didn't have anything to ***** about.

Amazing thing is this thread is now some 11 pages and going.

Interesting valuation tool just out by Hagerty Insurance. I selected the CSX 4000 series. I hope the link works. It says to add $15k for alloy body!

Yes, but did you see the check box for "Prior Owner Stigma?" That will automatically lower the price. Not saying that's appropriate here, just sayin'....
