When I got my SB100 certificate in 2008, CA BAR referee was still asking the question of a) year of car that it resembles or b) year of engine. The date of the SB100 exemption for Dave's car is 2004.

... and besides, the only piece of the engine that's getting reused is the block, and half the time that's an aftermarket piece anyway. For the most part, dates of these cars are meaningless other than "it looks like it came out of the early to mid sixties."

Not me - I believe in recycling. 1970 428 Service Block. 1961 390/401 HP heads ported/polished/valves upsized - all to 427 specs. 1963 427 dual quad intake. 1963 dual point distributor. Stock rebuilt water pump. Stock timing chain cover. Stock fuel lines, filter, etc. Doing my part to give old engine parts a new life. :)

My SB100 sticker says "Engine year 1965 Ford 7L, 1x4BBL carb."

... then if I were the inspector I would take the sum of the dates for every part and then divide by the number of parts. That at least has a rational basis behind it, and it's no more wrong than just reaching in your bag and pulling out "1960."

I vaguely remember looking into the books with the BAR referee and seeing/hearing the year "1960." I also remember that the BAR referee station was inside a vocational school for young adults that had prior problems with the law and desired to be mechanics. As my polished Kirkham was going through its emissions test as classes let out, I remember being a bit nervous as about 50 of them crowded around my car. All I heard as I watched the test was the question "how much is that car?" I assume just in case they were successful in delinking it from my possession.

I would be surprised if it was any lower then what it was advertised for, that was the lowest I have seen for a alum 4000 series car since I can remember.

... and even in their prime they were a notoriously poor live performing band. The studio was where they shined. People would even walk out on their live shows.%/
