When Porsche first opened his business doors it was as a engineering firm. many automotive manufacturing companies (Ford, Chevrolet, Porsche , Audi, etc) have other automotive manufacturing companies supply a base vehicle where the company then produces its own exterior and some drivetrain components and then they call it their own brand, the VW Tourag was a perfect example, it provided a base vehicle to Porsche and Audi for their respective SUV market. Porsche even utilized the VW VR6 engine in its base model Cayenne. This has been going on since the beginning of the automobile with chassis manufacturers supply chassis to coach builders to complete and call their own. This practice has taken place with normal production run vehicles all the way up to high end limited production specials.

Psst, it is 2016.
Everyone s moved on except for Cobras cars and their specialized mom&pop shops. Cobra $$$$ keeps your business afloat. Keep on spreading the Cobra gospel. . Contact Dario F. He did not a problem ponying $228K for Csx4206. Dario liked the stories

[quote=CompClassics;1385097]I believe that Evan believed that his Cobra was as original as the 1960s Cobras, it is./QUOTE]
ComClassics did say "as original" not "an original." I misread that statement. My apologies.
But originals didn't have a Kirkham bodies.

It is abundantly clear that some of you are determined to have the last word in this thread. However, just remember that Evan had the last laugh.

Keep in mind some originals don't even have an original body or frame. It's still an original though and in some cases worth millions. There are replicas out there that only an expert can discern. I actually don't know, but it sounds like Evan's old car could be one of them and perhaps that was the point CompClassics was trying to make.
Food for thought -

He who laughs last is the slowest thinker!
He is now the Porsche Owner's Club's problem. And I don't think they will be as tolerant as we were.

Haha, He bought a Porsche RS?
An Original RS or just a REAL1?
The circle of life continues....
I'm glad to have met Even via this forum. He was fun, as long as you didn't take him (or yourself) too seriously. I wish him all the very best.

The original air cooled '73 2.7 RS is the only REAL genuine authentic RS. Today's Porsches are water-cooled and made by VW/Audi.

Depends on how you define "together." But you know what I meant. Someone just likes to argue. Porsche's are mass produced automobiles today and some would argue no longer really Porsches, because "together" changed.

Well, that's debatable!
They do use common parts - like the same anti-emissions-by-pass-technology.
Enjoy.
Volkswagen emissions scandal widens to include Porsche and Audi, regulators say - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
All in good fun, but where there's smoke there's fire.
The way corporates run thief business, it just goes to show that government is merely "middle management"

Perhaps there is no notification of REAL status as it relates to a Porsche?
I mean, I can see him getting any 73 and then running around saying, "Look! It is real!"
What a wonderful concept "reality" is.
Hmmmm....

Totally disagree. After 1998 (993), the last air-cooled Porsche, they're not REAL Porsches any more IMO. They went from hand-made to mass-produced with the introduction of the 996. And today's 991 is the Titanic in comparison to the older models and the traditional 911 shape lost.
The 991 is a great car, but VW/Audi/Porsche combo lost its direction/way in terms of the 911. Today's Porsche has '14 GT3 engine fires, recalls for emissions defeating software, getting rid of manual transmissions (but now bring it back in the next gen GT3), etc.
Nah, I'll just continue to enjoy my REAL air-cooled Porsche.

The list goes on...
Point is that everyone out-sources what they need to build a car. Still happening today.

Actually, it's the other way around. It's the primary I bought an Gallardo back in '08. Italian styling....German electrics, running gear, powertrain. What you'd call a perfect combination.

I guess I could get used to the dual roll bars, but those black wheels are the deal breaker for me.

That's why I hung on for years owning both ends of the spectrum until recently......'62 356 roadster & '97 [993] C4S.

I'm the other way around, the two roll bars don't look right to me. Wheels can be changed easily and I think you get an extra set too with this car.
At $135,000, I don't find the price too high or too low. Seems reasonable to me, especially considering two CSX4000's (not Evan's) were sold for $150,000-ish.
