I believe that if I had that kind of money to spend on a car I would be looking at one of the 60s originals. Just my thoughts.

Not for nothing but I can't remember the last time I saw a 60s original, that was not close to or over a million.

Dean,
There have been 3 or 4 that have no racing history sold out here for around $450/$550K. Most were 289 cars but one was a 428 one that went for just over $550K.

Billboard tires
The thing that makes his car look good is the white letter billboard tires. The big white letters against the black give it good contrast. Without those tires, it would not be a big deal.

Ron I have been watching them to. Only thing is is that would ya drive it ??? My personal opinion is NO.. Thats why I have a 4000 car.. I have had enuff garage queens that sat for years. Now at my old age ya have to drive em

If I had one, yes I would drive it. If I could afford one of them I could afford to fix whatever breaks. There used to be a club that had around 25 original Cobras that came down here every Summer and some of them were not in great shape so far as looks go, but they sure ran well. I wouldn't own a car that I was afraid to drive. But I am not big into show cars either.

My thoughts are all-known on this topic, but I don't think the buyers know that Shelby still sells replicas and Kirkham is busy building them. Why would anyone pay $325,000-$495,000 for a really nice replica and they're still making them.
Additionally, you can buy one of those "competition-series" Shelbys with all the NOS parts for $495,000 (including the $50,000 charitable donation to Shelby's charity), which is probably where that seller derived his/her asking price.

I'm guessing the seller did that kind of math and then factored in the ability to drive his car on the street as opposed to the "competition series continuations" that you mention. Like "hey, buy one of those and put it in a collection or buy mine and actually drive it!"
Unless I missed something and the seller's car is not street legal either...

Competition and completion are two different cars. Shelby gave Finishline Motorsports the go ahead to make 22 full competition cars as long as he had say on parts and gave his approval to Finishline. I have no 7 of 11 built before Finishline closed. Shelby started using 3000 numbers that had not been used yet to build completion cars. Program restarted lately by Shelby corp. As I understand it.

If I didn't buy alloy black car 4322 last year I'd be calling to negotiate on this car. This is the first time I've seen pictures and the details on it and I love it.

I don't know who the seller is, but he or she can't be very smart OR he/she can't be serious about selling the car.
Evan's CSX4206 is likely one of the most detailed Shelby's in existence, if you're into the " authenticity of a replica" thing, and that CSX with all the red/blue Aeroquip fittings isn't even in the same ballpark as Evan's car. And there's absolutely nothing special, or at least can't be duplicated very easily, about single Holley 4-bbl 700 HP "Bill Elliott" FE engine. Whoop-Dee-Doo. I'm sure that windscreen alone is worth "BooKoo" bucks. 
And anyone that can spend $500,000 on a Shelby replica, can probably sidestep a few "landmines" at some State's DMV and get their "Competition-series" replica registered for the street. Good luck in CA though. 
If anyone is serious about buying a top-of-the-line Shelby replica, then they should be calling Evan. OTOH, it might not be worth buying Evan's CSX, when you consider the conversations and correspondence that will have to take place with Evan. Some buyer might have to hold the phone in one hand and also hold a hammer in the other hand. I can see a buyer either: a) smash the phone during the conversation or b) take some self-inflicted blows to the head before, during and after the conversation.   |

Naaah, it's pretty easy. You just start out with "assuming we can agree on a dollar figure, are there any other contingencies on the sale?" Then you look at those, if any are deal breakers that you can't live with, then you're not going to make the deal. Assuming not, you then talk money. Offer 20% below the top number you're comfortable with and then negotiate up from there. If you hit your top comfort number, and you're still below what he wants, throw in the towel. Otherwise, close the deal. Remember, if he didn't need the money then he wouldn't be selling. |

Or, bring JAMO in and have him mediate the sale with both parties in separate rooms!

No, I would hire Mr. Mustang and pay him a flat fee plus a healthy percentage on the margin between my top comfort price and whatever it is he was able to close on. |
