Default MT vs Hoosier

Tire thread again. MT ST's are rated at what hardness, the same for SR's.
Cooper Cobras are at 440. Which Hoosier tire would be best? If it is Avon, how long will they last? Heat cycles a factor for Avon's? I have SR's and are 8 years old. time to replace. Opinions please

I inquired with MT about a year ago about their tread wear ratings for the
ST and SR tires. They said the ST has a 440 rating and the SR's are not rated.
Also, the Cooper Cobra's and the ST's are essentially the same tire.

I get about 8000 miles on a set of Avons.

The 8k on Avons, any track time? More wear and tear on track?

Approx 250 mi road course time, a dozen 1/4mi drag passes, remainder street use. That would be typical for me.

"Also, the Cooper Cobra's and the ST's are essentially the same tire."

The construction may well be the same, but the tread patterns are 'way different, and that caused me to spend the extra $$$s for the MTs.

Karl,

I don't think I'd consider them "way different". Here are the links to the two sites where you can see the tread design of each.
Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels
Cooper Tire & Rubber Company - Cobra Radial G/T™

If you are referring to the MT Sportsman SR tires, then yes, they are very different.

When I was researching tires a couple of years ago I found that the MT tires are manufactured by Cooper. I think there is more information about this in some of the other tire threads on this forum.

Not sure how much power your car puts down, but if it's more than 450 or so I'd strongly recommend the Avon's. My car puts out 640 HP and the Avons have been completely solid and predictable. A bit more than 3500 miles and they look like they might go 10k.

Hi Ted, yes, the SRs was what I was referring to. Sorry if I didn't make myself clear, or got myself twisted around.

I bought my car, with SRs on it and have been well pleased with them. I'd run MT drag radials on my other car, and they did a good job of holding that car's 600hp/600 ft.#s, once they got hot. Not so good on wet pavement, but the SRs do a good job. Of course, I'm not punishing them as much with my little tiny engine.
