Default Haynes Cobra Publication

Just received my copy of the new (released 9/15) Haynes AC/Shelby Cobra 1962 to 1968 (all models) Owners' Workshop Manualfrom Amazon. This is a well done publication and gives great pictures of the cars of the period. It is a nice addition to any ones collection of Cobra based publications.

Unfortunately as a workshop manual it is very poor.
Unlike regular Haynes manuals for cars of that era.

How many people you figure are gonna buy one so they will know how to fix their real Cobra? Lol sounds like a fun book to add to your publications. I've always wanted a copy of "Train Wrecks For Fun And Profit" for my fire place mantle. (really exists)

It's true, as a workshop manual, it is worse than poor and should never have been called that. But really, do you think a publisher was going to put out a repair manual for a car that only had 1000 units built and almost everyone of those cars was different. Yes, it is a another Cobra book, but it has many period pictures that are new and maybe of interest to those trying to make their cars look as original as possible.

I must say it still has me curious. Somehow my shelf won't be complete without it.
If only Kirkham and Shelby...ah, never mind. Pat's covered that.

Same here. I have a copy coming today. If nothing else, an addition to the bookshelf as well.

But.....
If it was a proper workshop manual would you still buy it?
Exactly. You and everyone else who bought it for the photos and those who were interested in what it claims to be.

I already have the old 427 chassis manual and the parts book from "TheTurd" as he's known here. I consider this more of a novelty item.

I bought one of the Haynes 'Owners' Workshop Manuals', knowing full well it was far more a history book than a shop manual. Regardless, for the price it's worth having. https://www.amazon.com/AC-Shelby-Cob...2FShelby+cobra

One of the first things I noted was the discrepancy in production numbers between the 996 it reports and the 998 reported elsewhere, including CC ( How many original Cobras were made? ).

I have not spent any time attempting to reconcile where the difference is, other than this:
  • Total 289 CID Leaf Spring Cobra - 580 (CC) vs 579 (Haynes)
  • Total Coil Spring Cobra - 343 (CC) vs 342 (Haynes)

Picked this up on Amazon. Did not expect a technical manual, but enjoyed getting to know the history of the cars.
