Default Question About Exhaust Joint Sealant

Just wondering what sealant you guys have found to be the most effective for exhaust system slip joints. Thanks in advance for any input.

ERA recommended Walker's exhaust system sealant which I used.

Not really sure it works better than the red, hi-temp RTV except it possibly cleans up easier with Prep Sol or Acetone.

Permatex has an exhaust sealant that they say is good for up to 2000 degrees. I just put it in my collectors. Seems to be holding up so far.

Clicky

The instructions are pretty vague. I read not to follow the directions on the package. It is a two step cure process. First, put it place with the pipes wet with water. Let this set for 36+ hours. Then run the car at idle for 15 minutes for the final cure. If you do part two before part one has had enough time to set, the exhaust gasses will just push the product out and make a mess.

Tede,

On my first Cobra I just cleaned the pipe ends really well and then used a light coating of the high temp Permatex. They had a chrome band that went around them and was almost invisible and I never had an exhaust leak and I had them off and on several times.

Thanks for the responses gentlemen. Looks like I'll probably give the Permatex product a try.
