CSX 2000 To B Auctioned

Wow..... Maybe SAI needs the cash flow.

Wow. Even 1960's Cobra owners call CSX2000 the original.

That's going to be worth ALOT of money.

E5USMC 06-29-2016 02:28 PM

I wonder what spawned the decision to sell it? I'm guessing 25-28 million.

ACademic 06-29-2016 02:30 PM

FWIW, I'm actively seeking co-signers and investment partners for this one. I think I can scratch together a couple G's for the initial effort... :3DSMILE:

The tour at SAI says CS turned down 26M years ago. We'll see if that buyer comes forward. As much as I wish it would set a record like that, I don't see it getting close. $10-12M is my guess.

Interesting that with the Barrett Jackson linkage it isn't going there.

1985 CCX 06-29-2016 02:34 PM

Will set a record for sure.......
SAI will be selling the gem, maybe too much for insurance?

Its claimed to have had solid offer at $25MM in the past... Turned it down

CSX3178 is also going, another Shelby car... What gives

Hold on there. It's not a Ferrari.

Daytona Coupe CSX2601 sold for $7.25 MM.

Monterey 2009: Shelby Daytona Coupe sells for record $7.25 million - Autoblog

I'd guess somewhere around $5 MM minimum and 10 MM max.

twobjshelbys 06-29-2016 02:36 PM

I think there is a presumption that "SAI" is in charge here. The car is owned by the Shelby family. They also own SAI. But SAI will not directly benefit from the sale.

E5USMC 06-29-2016 02:36 PM

Wow... Interesting number.

We need to start a pool on the sell price to see can get the closest

The family is probably just splitting up the estate.

That would be the wise thing to do, as there is no way to split the value of the car up equally among heirs. Logical thing to do is to sell it, then split the money equally among those who are supposed to benefit.

The pool is already running.

As to the comparison to CSX2601, the Coupe was certainly rich in history, but this one is richer. The Coupe had an established racing history. CSX2000 was always a photo opportunity and driver car. It has a personal connection to CS which I think offsets the racing history of 2601. That said, 2601 was a while ago, and I think have an original unmolested (and heavily repainted) Cobra makes it worth a little more (even adjusted for inflation, and the Brexit will have been forgotten by then).

Remember the Supersnake Cobra sold for 5.5M to Ron Pratte who sold it for 5.1M.

I just don't see 20M+ happening. What are the non-Cobra comps? Have there been any other significant cars go for that price?

And alot can happen between now and then..

The two Ferraris.

1962 GTO for $38MM at Monterey 2014
1957 355 for $36MM this year.

It's definitely going to sell for alot of money, no doubt about it, but I'd also add that Shelby only made 6 Coupes and they built 655 (?) small block Cobras.

1985 CCX 06-29-2016 03:04 PM

Its "THE" original
Always CS owned.....
Unrestored, seat had Shelby's ass in it, coupe was redo...
It is the car that started it all...

I am guessing >GTO value

fordracing65 06-29-2016 04:21 PM

I sat in the car once.

ChiChris 06-29-2016 04:39 PM

CSX2000 is being offered by the Shelby Trust.
Point taken earlier that the family most likely wants the money sure sounds correct.
Just sad it will be in private hands.
I'd guess $10M

I'd argue that the Ferrari company and legacy is far more storied with a significant and successful racing history than Shelby American. I don't think CSX2000 will sell anywhere near $35-40MM.

And more importantly, Ferrari spawned one of the most famous movie lines in history, so it has that going for it too:
