A Tribute To Real1
Lately, I kind of miss the tension that our former member injected into this forum.
So, I thought we could all share some of our personal highlights of his many years of participation on this site. Doesn't have to be negative comments either. He contributed a wealth of insight and knowledge to this forum as well as instigating some of the longest threads purely by his refusal to admit defeat. Just post a memorable experience that you would like to share.
Let's limit this to things that he actually did or said and try to keep our personal opinions to a minimum. Don't want to bash the guy when he can't chime in and defend himself. Just some personal anecdotes that helped define his presence on this forum.
I'll start: Back in 2007 when I first joined, I challenged his real-versus-original claim in one of his many threads. I guess I pushed his button too hard. He took me offline and came at me like a New Jersey street lawyer. After a few back and forths, he blocked my email so I couldn't respond to him any longer. From that point on, I thoroughly enjoyed batting the ball back and forth with him on this public forum. He definitely mellowed as the years went by, but he never backed down from his point, even when he was offered overwhelming proof to the contrary. That's what made it so much fun to goad him.
Ok, your turns!
Oh, and if this is too controversial or improper, just let it die or close it down.

Don't know why someone gets a kick out of rat packing someone. With all people on him he sold his car and left. So what if he was out of balance. I liked his enthusiasm.

He defended his passion with passion and many here made a mockery of him for just that. In the end, he got his number when he sold his expertly crafted CSX continuation car, leaving egg yolk on many of the naysayers here. I'd buy the guy a drink if we ever met in person.

Evan, I've known him offline for close to 20 years, a lot of fun to poke at (most always in jest), easy to push his buttons (again, 99% of the time in jest) just as he knew it was easy to push some of ours. Has (had) a nice collection of cars, but took/takes each marque far too seriously for his own good. Love him or hate him, he has a passion for those automobiles. Perhaps I'll seen him next time I'm in state, you never know......

I have been here for quite some time now and can say that while Evan was a feisty stubborn guy at times, he never took a shot at me and actually helped me on a few things off line. Very passionate to be sure and I'm sure he still is with the new car. If I ever needed a good lawyer that won't back down, he'd be on my list for sure!

Who can spot the commonality in the following statements?
"If you don't have a Registry, buy one. If you have a Registry, read it."
"I'll stick to the Registry."
"It's right in the Registry."
"Get a Registry and read it."
And my personal favorite:
"The facts, the law, the Registry."

And I'm not going to go searching for it, but there's his infamous 10+ year old dead link to a SAAC statement that he provided the viewership here, which he tried to utilize as SAAC's current views on the subject of the Shelby Cobra replica.
The abridged version is that over the course of 10+ years, the SAAC Board changed their minds on their views of the CSX4000/6000/7000. Opinions evolve. Go figure.

I miss him being here.... Lots of interesting threads with tons of great info were either started by him or contributed to by him. He got the informational juices flowing in not only himself but others and I for one learned a lot from him and others. I hated to see him sell his CSX car but kinda doubt it had anything to do with the banter here.....that guy knew no quit!!!
I cant recall a better looking or detailed Continuation Shelby Cobra. That thing was an amazing looking car. Somehow I hope he finds his way back oneday.

One of my responses:
"Facts, Fraud, Logic, Ned, Live Long and Prosper, The "Certain Liberties" 2008 Registry, The Future "Sour Grapes" 2018 5th (nope, not 50th) Edition of the World Registry, and The "I've Already Admitted Several Times My Car is a Replica, But Decided to Extend This Thread An Additional 40 Pages Just To Continue Hearing The Voices Inside My Head."
Here are some more statements by Real One:
"The Registry is very very clear."
"My answers are based on the Registry."
"My position is the same as the Registry's."
"You obviously don't own a Registry."
"Read the Registry."
"I prefer to the cite the Registry."
"He is not SAAC nor the Registry and doesn't speak for them."
"By the way, do you even own a Registry."
"In the meantime, it's all in the Registry."
"It's all in the Registry and made crystal clear."
"You obviously lack knowledge of the Registry."
"Go slow Facts,.....Law,.....Registry."
I could keep going forever.

I never engaged him personally, but as the owner of an aluminum CSX4000 car, I always enjoyed his arguments for them being Real......
I know what I have and I know it's a continuation, though.

And I always enjoyed watching him dig his way out after he was cornered by his own logic. Gotta admit, the guy knew how to twist words when he wanted to.
Bet he's a brilliant lawyer who never gives up for his client.

So you either have an incredible memory or you have taken the time to log and maintain a document with which you can recall all of these? If the latter, then who got under who's skin?

Actually, it was quite simple. I just searched on the word "Registry" in the search bar. He's the only person who ever used that word in his posts, except for when several of us responded to him.
Otherwise the Registry is never ever mentioned.

BTW, maybe because of that last, or almost last, famous thread that was 50+ pages, SAAC has eliminated any further confusion (and all dead links) with the new SAAC.com page:
Shelby American Automobile Club
"Dedicated to the care, preservation, history and enjoyment of the world championship cars from Shelby American, and the cars they have inspired from 1962 to today."
