There are several types of fender-mount mirrors - and methods of attachment. Start by removing the screw/nut at the front of the mirror body. You should be able to slide the guts out. If you don't have a nut, you may have to access the mirror mount from inside the fender.

I think the thread you are looking for is 'Side Mirror Placement'. Search for this and see the comments by Dwight.

What mirror do you have now?
Does it have a Phillips head screw at it's front most tip?
if so, remove the screw and take the mirror assembly out.
Next take the small nut off the stud that is behind where the mirror is and lift that assembly off the mounting base.
At that time you can ascertain which mount you have, and what may be done to eliminate the holes left in the body.
Depending on the color, a good bodyman may be able to fill the holes and touch up and color sand the touch up for an almost imperceptible repair.
So, with that said, what color is your car painted? perhaps attaching a picture might help.

My car is white, picture to left of user name. Removing the mirror is not a problem filling the holes is. My thought was to finish out the season since installing a Raydot mirror on the windshield post the fender mirror should go having two is overkill. Well maybe not the fender mirror gives me a great view of the rear fender. I thought is was this forum I saw the article on those quick fix badges.

Your local bodyshop should be able to fill the holes and add touch up paint (properly dried then wet sanded) for a seamless, or almost seamless match. When I had my body shop, I did this several times with non metallic paint jobs, all of my customers were quite happy with the repair. Figure less than $200-$250 for the repair, unless they want to "blend" paint for some strange reason.

Removed fender mirror on SPF522 and found the holes were small enough to inset rivets with silicone. Matches the hood rivets perfectly and mirror can be reinstalled when I sell.

I take a thin piece of stainless and hammer it with a leather hammer to match the curve of the fender. Then I polish it and take it to a knife shop that engraves what ever I want on it.
I've done this to five or six Cobras when I move the mirror onto the windshield post.
I use double back tape to hold it on. It's easy to remove if needed.

Thank you Dwight that is exactly what I was looking for. How thick is the stainless plate you use?
After having the fender mirror off really starting to enjoy the clean fender lines without it. May take the car up to the body shop I have used in the past and see about getting the holes filled.
