The California Highway Patrol has released the name of the driver killed in a fiery crash near Paso Robles over the weekend.
Officers say Anthony Ray Riso, 31, died after his 1965 Shelby replica went off Highway 101 Saturday afternoon near the Highway 46 West offramp, rolling several times before landing on its wheels and becoming engulfed in flames.
Witnesses worked to remove Riso from the vehicle, but were unsuccessful due to the heat and a four-point harness the Paso Robles man was wearing, according to CHP. No other vehicles were involved.*
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. CHP says drugs or alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors.*

My condolences to the family also.
I had to look up that intersection on Google maps and it looks like mostly straight exit rams to 46 West from 101. I wonder how he rolled it.

My bet: Rear end broke loose during acceleration.

Very sad news. Ours is a small community. I'm sure someone that knew him will chime in.

Along with a full medical kit, I carry a specialized seatbelt cutter in my rig all the time, just for this reason.

Carrying a fire extinguisher in the cockpit is always a good idea! Someone trying to render aid may be able to use it if the driver is unconscious. Might have made a difference in this case.

Never thought of one for that. I thought they were mainly for looks. I have a suppression system for my engine but what about for me.

Cosby 200mph made fun of the fire extinguisher but in reality for a car like this it is there for a reason.

That is sad indeed. But a later story now says it was a Shelby Mustang that he was driving. Either way, don't try to cut a seat belt straight across. Cut at an angle as they are much easier to cut that way.

If you are going to pay for a suppression system, you should always have at least a 2 zone fire suppression system, one for the engine the other for the driver/passengers. Some people go with a 3 zone and run the other zone towards the fuel cell/gas tank.
Another critical piece is that if you are going to run a fire suppression system make sure that the pull switch is accessible from the outside of the car too. Do not place it so far low on the tunnel that a person cannot reach it from the outside.

On a Kirkham the pull switch is on the dash next to the rpm gauge

My condolences to the family.
As most of our Cobras are built by the owner on this forum you can never be to safety conscious when it comes to your personal safety.
Remember that you as the driver are the first person on the scene in situations like this and hopefully you are in a position to react in these types of events. As 1795 stated make sure you and others have access to safety equipment devices and triggers.
I recently was tasked with completing a clients car that was started at another shop. When I received the car I noticed that the previous builder had placed the triggering devices for the cars safety equipment completely out of reach of the driver and in a vulnerable position for damage depending on the accident. Plan ahead, the photo is of the repositioned safety triggers in my clients car...
